Colby pulled into the parking lot of a restaurant named Tender Greens. "This is my favorite place to go. I take Brennen here a lot."

"Oh so you and Brennen are pretty close then?" I raised an eyebrow as I unbuckled my seatbelt.

"Very. I mean, we like it, so maybe you'll like it..?" He seemed like was asking more of a question than being sure on a confident statement.

"I bet I will. I'm already impressed by you asking to take me out to lunch."

Colby smiled and shrugged his shoulders. God, he was so adorable.

"Hi. Welcome to Tender Greens. I'll be your server today. Party for?" The waitress behind the counter was way too preppy.

"Table for two. Please." Colby pulled out his phone from his back pocket and placed it into the front of his jeans.

"Alright sounds good. Follow me." The waitress grabbed a few menus from under the desk and brought us to our table.

"Is this table alright?"

Colby looked to me for approval. "Yes it's perfect." I smiled up at him.

"Great, can I get you something to drink right away then?"

"I'll just do a water." I awkwardly crossed my legs under the table trying not to hit Colby's legs.

"I'll do the same." Colby peeked over the menu, his eyes met mine.

"Perfect." She skipped away.

"God, she has way too much energy for me." I rolled my eyes at the waitress and broke the eye contact between Colby and I.

Colby laughed, "Yeah. The people that work here are pretty happy people...usually." He frowned.

I saw a message pop up onto Colby's phone, my eyes darted to it immediately. Apparently so did Colby's. As soon as he recognized who's it was, he turned the phone upside. "It was just my mom."

"Oh. That's nice that she texts you. I mean, my parents don't have the time."

"Yeah.." Colby's voice faded out. I knew it wasn't his mom.

The waitress came back with our drinks. I played around with the straw and sipped my drink.

"Are we ready to order?" She held out her pen and notepad.

"I mean, I am. I just get the same thing every time. Are you ready?" Colby looked over to me.

"Yeah. I'll do the grilled salmon bowl salad." (Lmao yes, I looked that up. It's a real menu option but I didn't know because I don't have a Tender Greens where I'm from).

Colby ordered his food, and the waitress took away our menus. "Sounds good. Be out in a few."

-Colby's POV-

Today was about Violet and I. I didn't want there to be anything weird. I just wanted this to be an opportunity to where we could get closer. However, it was going just fine until I got a text message from the girl that we kind of had on and off feelings for each other, Shea.

Shea and I didn't talk much anymore. I haven't seen her for a while since she moved out somewhere further from Los Angeles with her family. I think she was only about driving distance away though.

I sighed and try to play it off as a yawn. Come on Colby, just ignore it. This couldn't have been a worse time for her to do this.

Author's Note:

Good morning. I hope you had a good 4th if you celebrate that type of thing. This chapter seems kinda shorter but it's mostly dialogue. What's Colby going to do? What did the message from Shea say?
