"Well, I failed that quiz," Kai said after the bell rang.

For some reason, he was still talking to me even after a week had passed. Not that I minded it, but I thought it would have been more awkward to try and be friends with the random guy you made out with on a dare at a party. But maybe it wasn't for him or he was just good at hiding it at least.

"It couldn't have been that bad," I replied. "I heard Mrs. Yoon's quizzes are pretty easy."

"Says the kid who knows English so well he might as well have been born in America," he said, giving me one of those faces. I laughed and looked away as my cheeks began to blush. "Did we have a lot of time to study the vocab? Yes, but that's not the point. The point is that this is no way to learn English and it should be changed."

"Sounds like an excuse to me but okay," I said with a laugh. "You let me know when you change the entire Korean education system and I'll support you."

"I might just do that. You don't know what I'm capable of." He nudged me gently and I laughed again. Just as we were passing the lockers, Chanyeol appeared and smiled a friendly smile.

"Oh hey," I said, smiling back at him. "This is Kai. Kai, this is my best friend Chanyeol."

"Hey," Kai said with a small wave. Chanyeol just smiled and nodded in response. "Well I guess I'll see you around, D.O." I waved and watched as he slowly disappeared down the hall.  When I caught myself staring, I let out a brief exhale and turned to face an awkwardly standing Chanyeol.

"Come on," I said, chuckling and giving him a little smile. "We're gonna be late for chemistry." He just hummed and nodded, letting pull him in the direction of the classroom.

This D.O person was really starting to grow on me. I couldn't explain why, but I found him to be quite fascinating. He seemed so shy but like he had a lot to say at the same time and I wanted to listen to every single word. It was weird to explain with words, but I was just drawn to him.

I asked Xiumin to give me a ride home one day after school, so we headed out to his car together right after our last class ended, deciding to skip after school studying that day.

"Hey, what do you know about that D.O guy?" I asked him. He lowered his eyebrows and thought for a moment, as if he was trying to recall who I was talking about.

"You mean Luhan's friend?" he asked in confirmation. I nodded my head and hummed. "Not much. I haven't really talked to him, but then again he doesn't really seem like the type to talk much."

"Really? He seems to talk to me just fine," I said.

"Well that's probably because you forced him to," he said, looking at me and grinning. I smiled too and laughed a little. "But I guess Luhan would know better than me. He does hang out with him more. Why do you want to know anyway? The kiss getting the best of you?"

"No, I was just curious," I replied quickly. Chuckling, he glanced at me and then looked right back at the road ahead of him.

I was curious. In fact, my curiosity about a person was at an all-time high. But the more I thought about it, the more it seemed possible that the kiss was the reason behind it all.

Chanyeol and I rode home from school in his car. I still felt this awkward tension between us and I absolutely hated it. He was my best friend, one of the most important people in the world to me and I could have sworn I felt him distancing himself from me for some reason.

"Hey," I said as we were driving.

"Huh?" he said, his eyebrows raised but his eyes still focused on driving.

"Are you okay? You're not usually this reserved and you haven't had as many snappy comebacks to Luhan this week. I'm worried," I said.

"I'm alright," he replied with a chuckle. My distrusting eyes stayed on him and I could tell he knew. "Soo, I'm really fine, okay? I promise I'm not depressed."

"That's what depressed people say." He chuckled a little, revealing the first genuine smile I had seen from him in days.

"Look, I appreciate you being so concerned with my well being, but I'm okay." He pulled into my driveway and turned the car off before looking at me. "Don't worry about me," he said, placing his hand on top of mine compassionately. I sighed a little as we looked at each other.

"Well I am and you can't stop me," I said, raising my eyebrows. He laughed again and then I took my seatbelt off.

"I'll see you tomorrow," he said, waving at me as I got out of the car. I waved back and waited to go in until he was pretty far down the street, my worries over him still lingering in my heart.

It wasn't like him to cover up his real emotions. He was the kind of guy who cried at the dumbest movies and laughed at the lamest jokes. I knew Chanyeol better than he knew himself, so I could tell when he was acting withdrawn and I knew something was up with him. I just didn't know what.
