Kyungsoo

I was excited about the dance, but the possibility of his parents finding out about our plan hung over my head like a dreary rain cloud. I knew what Kai was going through at home already--though I had a feeling it was much worse than he let on--and I didn't want things to go downhill even more. If us breaking up meant his safety, I could live with it. Kai would do anything to make sure that was our very last resort, but I didn't know how much longer I could go on knowing he was risking his own safety just for me.

Despite all these inhibitions, though, I looked forward to spending time with and tried to make sure I showed it. It also gave me a good chance to get to know Baekhyun more. As long as Chanyeol was putting in the effort with Kai, I figured I should be doing the same with Baekhyun.

"Fair warning, I've only ever worn the suits my parents bought for my piano recitals, which are totally different from dances, so I may not be the best shopping company," he said as he walked slightly ahead of me. We decided to head downtown and check out some of the small shops to see what we could find.

I laughed a little. "I'm sure we'll be fine. Just be glad we aren't dress shopping. Then we'd be doomed," I said back, now making him let out a chuckle. We walked down the sidewalk for a few minutes more before finding a shop that caught our attention.

When we walked in, there was a small section of suits and tuxedos, so we headed there first. We just browsed for a while until I felt Baekhyun tap my shoulder lightly, taking a few steps back before a suit out in front of himself.

"How about this one? I think it's perfect for you," he said. The tux was nothing special, a classic white shirt with a black jacket, tie, and pants to go with it. It was simple but effective in my opinion. I just hoped Kai would think the same.

"Yeah, I like it," I replied, smiling at him. He smiled back, a hint of excitement hidden behind his mouth. It was nice to see him coming out of his shell more. It was also nice to know I made him feel comfortable enough to be that way around me. "You're next I guess. Did you see anything you like?"

"Um..." He looked around, suddenly looking nervous. "N-No, not really...I can probably just find something at home. I'm sure one of my old suits still fits..."

"As if." I rolled my eyes and took the suit from him. "We're here, so we might as well find you something, too. Come on. There's got to be something here."

I gently took his wrist and pulled him over to a different rack before starting to browse through it. Eventually, we did find something and left after we paid. We ended stopping for ice cream on the way back to his car, so I got to hear more about him and Chanyeol.

For a moment, I felt normal. I felt like an average teenager who shopped with his friends and talked about his boyfriend entirely too much. I felt like the entire world wasn't about to come crashing down on me, just once.

Kai

I looked at the time for the millionth time as I waited for Baekhyun and Chanyeol outside my house. It took some convincing, but my parents finally gave in and let me go to the dance. Of course, they called their parents to make sure that's where we were actually going and made sure I knew of my midnight curfew, but I wasn't going to complain about the logistics. All that mattered was that I would be out of the house and with Kyungsoo, even if it was only for one evening.

I was standing out by the curb, feeling the eyes of my mother burn holes into my back. I glanced behind me to see her standing by the front window, which made me turn back around quickly. Luckily, they arrived not long after and I got in the car as soon as it stopped.
