"Hi. Did you wanna hang together again?" My persona asked me in the library.
"Actually..." I stretched out the word trying to figure out how to ask. Instead, I just passed thoughts through our connection.
"You want me to check out the robot so you can dive into Kira's memories." My persona almost groaned. I nodded sheepishly. "Do you even plan on getting any real sleep tonight?"
"That depends on how things go. Will you help me out? Please." I put my hands together.
"You've kept our bargain. And how can I resist such groveling? But promise me you'll get a few hours sleep."
"I'll do my best!" Before my persona could nag me for not complying, I began transmitting thoughts. "This is what I remember about the robot. Try to figure out how it works if you can. It was the biggest thing in that area so I didn't take the time to check anything else out."
"Sure. I'm curious too. But... Last time you went into this memory... It was very traumatic for you." She is right. I don't know the medical term, but I'd essentially had a fit. I'd fell out of the memory into my library. It felt like I was in there for months. When I finally woke up, I was in my stasis chamber. "Take care of yourself."
"I will. I promise." My persona opened the door to leave but turned to smile at me.
"If I finish before you get back I'll re-merge with you. So don't be surprised if you wake up in your float tank." She disappeared before I could say anything. I sent her my gratitude through our connection as I shut the door. From my chair I summoned my dream journal, but I couldn't quite bring myself to open it. I made my way to the top of the library tower, tossing the journal out the open window. The cover opened and pages fluttered as it fell. Rain fell with it, lightning struck and wind attacked everything with righteous violence. When the book finally hit the ground, open to the memory I wanted, water whirled out quickly flooding the island and pouring over the sides.
I collapsed over the edge. My body lax, muscles loose. At the last moment before hitting the water, I stretch and turn, changing a nimble fall into a swooning dive. But I do not sink to the bottom of calm waters. I am torn along the riverbed and over the falls. I fall. And fall. And fall.
