Chapter 40 : I just now realized how close we are.

"We were going to be expelled for three days, but we worked our way around and convinced him." Steve finally explained what happened with him and Aaron at the principal's office.

"How did you convince him?" Ethan asked.

"We told him we're good now and everything's okay between us." Aaron shrugged.

"So you're not planning to actually make up?" Laurel rolled her eyes.

"No." Aaron simply stated as he turned around and walked away.

As if on instinct, I ended up following Aaron, leaving everyone else behind.

He looks sad. And I don't like it when this boy is sad.

I still can't get Sunday out of my mind. The way he cried and held onto me made everything seem like shit, I hated it.

"Aaron, wait." I called out for Aaron and he turned around, surprised when he saw me following him.

"Yes, Oreo?" He finally stopped and I walked up to him.

"Are you okay?" I asked the only thing I have on my mind.

"Why wouldn't I be?" Aaron replied, obviously lying to my face.

"Don't lie to me." I said, when my eyes zoomed in on his face.

"It's starting to bruise." I gasped slightly as I placed my hand on Aaron's jaw where there's a yellow and purple colored bruise.

I was too caught up in checking Aaron's injury that I didn't realize his breathing was fastening right after he hissed slightly in pain.

"Wha-" before I got the chance to ask him about that, I unintentionally locked my eyes into his and every word on my mind seemed to have wandered off.

I just now realized how close we are.

Aaron and I continued staring into each other's eyes and for a moment it felt like it's only him and I here, everything else has vanished.

But then out of nowhere I remembered what happened last time we were close.

We almost kissed. And it wasn't what I wanted.

With that in mind, I forced my eyes to shift somewhere else as I said, "You should probably get some ice for it." and then stepped away.

Aaron took a deep breath and I can swear I saw disappointment on his face.

"Yeah, sure.." he then replied and I stared behind him.

I'm trying to look anywhere really. This is awkward.

I need to change the subject but unfortunately, there's only one thing on my mind.

"What did Steve mean when he talked about some girls?" I finally blurted out, adverting my eyes to Aaron's now.

Damn, where did that come from..

"I don't know.." Aaron responded, looking away from me.

"You don't know, really?"

"Yeah, what?" Aaron said.

"You don't even know why you were fighting your best friend?" I argued.

"It's really nothing important." Aaron said and I sighed, there's no point in trying to find out anymore, I can tell he doesn't wanna say.

I don't know why I care and that's mainly what's driving me insane.

There's no way that I like Aaron, what's happening to me?

"Okay, I'll see you around then.." I said and turned around in an attempt to walk away.

It's getting awkward and I just need to get to class.

I barely made two steps in when Aaron pulled me back by my arm.

"What?" I asked, smiling, trying to pretend that we didn't almost kiss again.

"There is no girls, it's just one girl." Aaron said but when I stayed silent he realized that he did not make it any better.

"No- I- fuck, it's you Ellie." Aaron let go of my arm and I looked up at him in confusion.

"What?" I replied.

"We were fighting over you." Aaron shook his head, sighing.

"What- why?" I asked, getting even more confused.

"It's nothing really, I don't wanna talk about it, just-" Aaron looked at loss for words, "there's no girls okay?"

Something about that managed to bring my good mood back again.

"Okay." I nodded, grinning.

Aaron smiled back at me, "We should get to class."

"Yeah we should.." I laughed as we made our way to class.

I wasn't going to let it go. I'm a curious person and I got even more curious when Aaron said it's about me.

So I'm going to ask Rose, Steve must've told her, right?

"He didn't tell me." Rose said again, and I believe she's lying.

"Stop lying to me!" I exclaimed, huffing.

"Do you really think I would listen to a boy over you, if I knew, I would've told you by now." Rose said, sighing.

"I just don't get how I'm involved!" I said, disappointed that Steve didn't tell Rose.

"Hey ladies." Ethan said, trying to be funny I guess, as he walked up to us with everyone else trailing behind him.

"Shut up." Steve scoffed as he went to stand next to Rose and put his hand around her waist.

"I'm going to ignore you and jump right in." Ethan glared at Steve and then looked at Rose and I.

"In celebration of Steve and Aaron's friendship coming back-"

"They love each other again?" I asked, surprised.

"Guys sure as hell make up fast." Laurel shook her head.

"Yeah, we're not problematic like girls." Joey replied and my inner female empowerment jumped out.

"That's because y'all are immature and stupid so you tend to fight over the dumbest things that don't need days to solve." I crossed my arms daring the 'unproblematic boys' to reply.

"Anyways," Ethan said as Joey looked away from me and Laurel high fived me, "We'll be attending a party to celebrate on Saturday, what do you think?"

I don't really go to alot of parties, and I prefer not to but I guess I can rebel for a weekend.

"Where is it?" Rose asked.

"Do you know Damen?" Nathan asked Rose back.

"Sophomore Damen?" I asked.

"The one and only." Nathan confirmed.

"So at his house.." Rose concluded.

"Yup."

"Okay, I guess I'll go but I don't know what to tell my parents." I sighed.

"We all know how good you are at lying so that will do." Aaron said, making me glare at him.

Oh well, I guess I'm going to a party.
