"What?" Iris said. "Queen Glory?"
Midnight's mind was sent into a whirl. Queen Glory. Queen of the Nightwings and Rainwings. Murder her. Why? How? Can we do it? Why is this our mission, not a normal one that we should have?
"Nooooo!" Lime cried, his scales turning to acid green and black. "Not my queen!"
In an instant, Maple was holding Lime by his neck, her knife and sword poised. "You have no queen. We are your queen. That dragon is not your queen. And you will learn this." She slashed a knife across Lime's neck, and dropped him. "We do not tolerate that behavior hear." Lime flopped to the ground, and his scales turned white and pale green. "Any more objections?" she said sweetly.
They all shook their heads. Queen Glory, she thought, uneasiness and sympathy for the queen running through her. No, she thought thought, and stopped herself. The rules of the school echoed through her mind. Do not be soft. Just murder that stupid queen anyways.
She tried not to notice Lime as he took his final breath. He was too soft anyways. He would have just brought us down. We have to do this. We've trained our whole lives for this.
Sapphire sat down in a regal position. Her face was a perfect picture of an emotionless mask, just like they've always been trained. To never let your emotions show. To always ignore your heart.
Glasswing looked down at Lime. Iris was standing very still in a shadowy corner. What else could they do? Maple was deadly. Midnight looked up at Maple, then at the others. "Well, let's go then."
They all slipped out of the room, quietly, and headed for the armory. Barb was there, with a grin on his face.
"What do you have to do?" he asked.
"None of your buisness," Iris snapped back.
The Sandwing shrugged and flew away. They slipped into the room, and all spread out to grab supplies. Midnight brushed her talons against the bow like she had yesterday. It felt different today. Cold. A weapon ready to murder. And she would accept that. Like she had to.
She took a small pack of food and water, with a knife in it. She then looked out the window. That's the way to death. The way to freedom, she corrected herself. The way to prove myself.
Iris, Glasswing, and Sapphire all came up to her. They were ready. No matter how much this mission may be challenging, they were trained for this. This is the one thing they were hatched for. They weren't going to back down now. Not so close to the prize. Even if it meant killing the queen of both the Nightwings and Rainwings. This is what assasins do. As they spread their wings and flew out, Midnight convinced herself that it was ok, and that this is what she was meant to do.
