So basically, I'm trying to balance all my art between my writing. So I'm making aquick schedule to help me and you(meaning the people who don't read my story XD).
I'll update this everyday(if I remember):
Saturday(6/21)
7:30-3:00, swim meet, will probably plan out more of chapter 8 and 9 though.
3:00-4:00, writing, hopefully will get out chapter 8
4:00-5:00, hopefully finish up all the art I have to do
5:00-7:00, dinner, piano, other stuff
7:00-8:00, free time reading and doing random stuff
8:00-10:00, whatever I feel like doing.
NOTE: I have a swim meet on Sat and Sun, so I won't be able to write much. I can probably get chapter 8 and start on 9, but that's it.
And now, Chapter 7.5, a backstory thingy from Iris's perspective:
She could remember the day of the initiation so well. 30 dragonets lined up in front of Maple. Her mother. Being the dragonet of the principle of the school wasn't easy. Some saw her as a monster, some sympathized with her. But most were jealous of her, or saw her as a mythical figure.
Sure enough, all the dragonets around her were whispering to each other and pointing at her. At one point, a Mudwing fell over laughing. She tried to ignore this, convincing herself that she would prove that she was normal, and just was good at everyone else.
One midnight blue dragonet wasn't joining though. She sat queitly in a shadowy corner, watching. Midnight never saw her as someone above the rest. She saw her as a normal student. Not someone with special treatment from her mother.
Not that her mother even noticed she existed. She had basically forgotten about her, treating her just like everyone else, maybe even worse. From the rumors and whispers, she was a result of an accidental egg laid between Maple and another Sky-Leaf hybrid. Maple had killed Iris's father immediately, but apparently saved her so she could grow up in the school. At least, this what the rumors said. Who knew if they were true?
"Now now," Maple said, flapping her wings. "Choose a partner. Let's get started."
The dragonets partnered up immediately. Most of them seemed to ignore Iris though, even avoiding her. Only one was left. Midnight. They merely nodded to each other as they both realized this, and partenered.
"This week we will test if you can join the school," Maple said with a smile. "Or if you'll die."
The whispers started again. Four years of training since they first hatched built up to this point. One of the two major tests of their careers, the other being the test they took three years later.
For the next week, she and Midnight leaped over spikes, dodged arrows, and solved problems together. They gradually warmed up to each other. They watched as dragonets slowly died off in the trials thay had passed so easily with each other, repeating the rules to themselve. Ignore your heart and emotions. Listen to your instructors. Follow directions no matter what. Ignore, kill.
The final day came as the remaining twelve dragonets lined up by Maple again.
"Well, on this final day," Maple said with a cunning smile. "Let's let luck decide for us." She pulled out a basket that seemed to contain slips of paper in it. "This basket is filled with your names. I will draw two. Those two will be killed, and the remaining ten will be initiated. Any questions?"
The dragonets all shook their head. Don't be Midnight, Iris pleaded, before catching herself. Don't be me, I mean. I couldn't care less about that hybrid. That was just pure luck that we ended out as partners. Forget her.
Maple reached into the basket and pulled out a small peice. She unfurled it, and said slowly, "Angelfish."
A small pale green Seawing screeched as a Skywing quickly slit her throat. The dragonet dropped dead immediately. Just like that, she thought.
Maple reached down and pulled out another name. A cruel smiled unfurled with the paper. "Midnight."
Several emotions ran through her at once. Pain, fear, sadness, anxiety, maybe a bit of glee? Whatever the case, she did the next thing without thinking.
Her tail flailed wildly, knocking the basket over, the papers showering over Maple. The Skywing who had headed for Midnight stopped, confused.
Maple came up, sputtering, and with a different paper in her hand. It read Darkling on it. A Hivewing curled up with a cry of fear as the Skywing took one look at the paper and headed for him. Maple looked slightly confused, then her cruel smile appeared again.
"Very well, dismissed. School will start tommorow," Maple's smile grew wider. "And Iris, report to my office."
Midnight glanced at her quickly, and Iris thought she heard her mutter, "Thank you."
Well this is how I die, she thought, but surprisingly with no remorse. At least I saved her. If I die, at least I saved her.
Maple looked at her. "Daughter," she said coldly. "I spared your life. Only for you to interupt my school's harmony. And breaking out number one rule. Ignore your heart. You clearly did not for that hybrid." She came around her table. "However, I am not cruel. I will let you live. On one condition. You never mention the fact that you are related to me. You pretend to fear me. To do anything to serve me. And when anyone mentions anything about the fact that we're related, you must kill them. Understand?"
"Yes," Iris muttered. She would find a way to make this work. She would warn Midnight, and everyone she cared about.
"Very well," Maple said. "You may leave."
Welp this chapter is longer than any of my others but whatever.
