Aahhhhh sorry this is late, I've got camp and a swim meet over the weekends, but I'm back!
Midnight wished she could relive that moment a hundred more times to make sure she'd heard Deathbringer correctly. I am a princess? How?
Deathbringer didn't seem surprised by this reaction and waited for her to calm down a bit. He then continued with his story. "So Glory found your egg and decided to put it in the Poison Jungle for the famous assassins who lived there to find. The necklace was my sister's. She put it one to weaken you. Don't you see how evil she is?"
Midnight looked up. She really couldn't figure out her emotions anymore. There was Assasin Academy and Deathbringer, both really good reasons to kill her, one being the way she was raised and the other being the fact that her husband was trying to kill her. But then there was the fact that this was her family and well, her days of wandering around the continent coming here had made her see some new things. Was it really right to kill innocent dragons for no reason other than someone told her to?
Deathbringer held out a talon. "So, what do you say, you want to go kill her together?"
Midnight looked into his gleaming black eyes. This wasn't the same Deathbringer she'd heard about, and she didn't know if she could trust him. And she didn't want to kill Glory at all anymore. But. But she was raised for this, and she had to go through with it. She reluctantly shook it.
Deathbringer smiled. "Alright, let me go gather up some reinforcements in case something goes wrong."
He left the room, and Midnight sat for what seemed like an eternity. Her mind was in a whirl, full of an internal war of whether or not she did the right thing.
She stood up and roared, ignoring the fact that others probably heard her. No. She was doing the right thing. Ignore your heart. The rule from her lifetime in Assassin Academy echoed back into her head.
Deathbringer finally came back with fifteen dragons behind him. She recognized some of them, but some were completely new.
Deathbringer grinned. "They're just here for backup." He pointed to each one as he spoke. "Passiflora, Scourge, Flutter, Tigress, Lorikeet, Taurus, Twilight, Malicious, Faith, Nightseeker, Tearshedder, Maleo, Orcus, and Cepheus."
Midnight nodded to each of them. "Well, are we going?"
"Yeah," Deathbringer said, and signaled to the dragons. She noticed that each was fidgety and seemed rather uncomfortable standing there, as if they were really unprofessional.
Deathbringer walked up to his desk.
"Aren't we going?" Midnight asked impatiently. She wasn't even sure why she was so impatient. She just wanted to get this stupid mission over with.
The Nightwing just smiled and pulled out something from under the table. A wisp of wind brushed over Midnight's scales. She glanced over and saw a trapdoor, leading to...the sky?
"How is that-"
"Animus magic," Deathbringer grinned. "Magic trapdoor I found back ho-" He paused. "At the volcano."
Back home? Is that volcano still like home to the Nightwings? She'd heard about the horrible conditions there, before they had been rescued. Does Deathbringer seriously hate Glory enough to consider that place home?
She flew out towards the sky, and looked behind her to see the fourteen dragons all spread out. The Nightwings slipped into the darkest areas, the Rainwings camoflauged, and the others flew upwards, into the clouds.
Maybe they're more professional than I gave them credit for.
She saw the Rainforest below her. Let's get this over with. Then I can finally continue living. The way I was supposed to.
Also, just note that I plan for there to be 21 chapters. Thanks for all the OCs people!
