Chapter 1: Everest’s POV

School. I sometimes wished I was never here. Well to be completely honest, if I wasn’t here I would be home and that isn’t what I want either. How about I go hide in a tree for a bit? Look on the bright side, I am moving in with my aunt and uncle. They’re very nice people and they knew about the abuse problems where I live.

My Aunt Isabella hates her sister, my mother. She finally got sick of the way she treated me and gave me the offer of living with her in Ohio. She knew I needed to get out of Kentucky, she knew I needed to change schools and start fresh.

For me, today was my last day in the middle of early January. When the school bells rang I ran out of class with my black book bag hanging over my shoulder. My new mom and dad were outside in there van.

I walked out the doors, my black hair flying in the wind and I saw cheerleaders and jocks frown at my bright grin that wouldn’t fall from my face as I saw my new parents smile and wave to me as they got out of the car.

“Hey girl how are you?” my father said to me, grinning towards me and giving me a hug.

“Doing better than I was before I was told I could leave here.” I smiled brightly.

“How about we chat in the car? It’s a half hour drive and I don’t want you home too late.” My aunt smiled and I nodded. We all piled into the car. I noticed my boxes were in the back. My furniture was already at the house. I had been sleeping on the couch for a few days.

I was doing my homework in the car most of the time, passing as much time as possible. I did socialize though, I felt like I could have in depth conversation with these guys and that’s what really me feel like I have been in this family for years.

I soon started to recognize streets and houses till we rolled into a familiar driveway. I smiled at the house that I recognized from many years ago. It still looked the same. Brown siding, white hinging everywhere, and a white door with a circle window.

They had flower beds and flower bushes around the property and the biggest detail that stood out was the large oak tree with a tire swing attached. They have a young daughter named May who is around 11.

“It looks the same.” I smiled out the car window.

“We are not ones to change details too often.” He chuckled. Probably a reason why they never had a second child. I opened my door and I grabbed my book bag and I helped grab my last few boxes out of the truck that wouldn’t fit in the small moving van they rented.

May was at her grandparents’ house nearby so I could get situated properly which was nice. “Follow me, your rooms upstairs.” My aunt said to me and I nodded as I followed her up the carpeted staircase.

My new room used to be the guest bedroom and when I walked in I smiled as I saw how they already started getting my things ready. They even set up my posters properly on one of the walls.

They also knew how I liked to dress and they got me new band shirts and they repainted my walls grey. They were so sweet I swear. My bed was against a wall nearby a window with a seat attached to it, they placed some pillows and stuffed animals of mine on the seat.

There was a small TV with my Xbox on the side. My video games were sitting on a rack. Two black cushioned seats sat around it.

My desk was resting against another wall and my laptop was already put in. My Fungo Pop figures were sitting on a corner of my desk with a pencil holder. I had my three decorative vinyl’s hanging over the desk.

My dresser was inside my closet where all my clothes were. My last two boxes just contained more clothes and books, the books would go on my half empty book shelf. My aunt and uncle were nearby and I gave them a large hug. “You made it look amazing thank you.” I said to them.

“No problem, how about you get yourself some rest? Tomorrow I heard a family down the street wants to meet you. They have a boy a year older than you. He is 19.” She informed me and I nodded.

“Sounds great!” I grinned. They said goodnight and they shut the door. I wandered around my room till I saw another door that I had overseen. I walked over and I opened it. A bathroom?! I never knew this existed here…

I grabbed a pair of sweat pants and an old shirt. I took my shampoo and conditioner out and I went to take a quick shower to get the school grime out of my hair and my body.

After taking a wonderful shower, I slipped into my clothes and I tied my hair in a bun. My removed my makeup that ran down my face from the shower and I climbed into bed. They even placed my bed spread on for me. It was black with white tie dye.

I looked at the clock on the side. 9:30.

I slumped under my covers and took one last look around my room. My new room. In my new house. With my new parents. In a new town. New state even. My parents aren’t going to come here and get me back for one last kick in the gut.

For all I know I can have actual friends now.

This new town may hold so many different varieties of memories. I closed my eyes and dreamt of the memories that may behold in Cincinnati. Maybe May and I will come close in rock music. Highly doubt it. I caught a glimpse of her room and it was bright pink with butterfly detail on the walls.

But that doesn’t mean I can’t show her the good stuff.
