Chapter 5: Everest’s POV

I was in Andy’s bedroom, sitting on his couch in the middle of the room. I was lying across it with my shoes off. We were watching TV and I had my head in Andy’s lap. My face was still sticky from old tears and my throat hurt like hell. “You still want to stay the night?” Andy asked and I nodded. “I’m still so sorry about May, Everest. She was out of line.” He said to me.

                “W-What if she’s right?” I crooked out.

“They offered you come live with them… you didn’t come here by force.” He said to me.

“Her words still hurt.” I mumble, sitting up and resting against the back of the couch.

“I know they do but don’t beat yourself up because of this, she’ll realize how big of a bitch she sounded once her parents talk to her.” Andy told me and I nodded as he wrapped an arm around me in a comforting way.

I heard Andy’s phone buzz off and I turned his way as he pressed it to his ear. “Hey Kaitlyn- whoa what is Julia yelling about in the background?” Andy frowned. “Ah you’re watching the nature channel and there’s a panda on the screen…” He grinned. “Anyways yeah I can ask her- Everest?” I looked up. “Kaitlyn and Julia wanted to know if you wanted to go sledding at the large hill at the end of the street.” He asked.

“That sounds like fun but you’re coming right?” He nodded. “Sure!” I grinned. “But I need to grab my sled from my house. We can go through the garage.” I said and he nodded. Andy hung up with a good bye and we ran downstairs.

Andy went to his garage and grabbed his sled. We decided that his sled was pretty big and we could share instead of returning to my house and maybe accidentally run into May in the garage, taking out her Barbie themed bicycle for a spin.

“Let’s go!” He said happily, putting a beanie on my head and running outside. Kaitlyn, Danny, Ben, Julia, Ashley, CC, Jake, and Jinxx were all standing there in sled gear. They must have left the house earlier.

“SLED RACE!” CC shouted happily, we all sprinted down the street till we saw a large hill covered in a fresh blanket of snow. We climbed to the top and we had 5 sleds with 2 people on each. Kaitlyn was on Danny’s, Julia was with Ben, Jinxx was with Ashley, CC was with Jake, and I was with Andy.

I got up front, Andy was in the back and when everyone was sitting in a ready position. “Alright guys…” Andy looked around. “3, 2….1!” Andy shouted as he pushed our sled with his hands off the ledge and we went sliding down. I held onto my beanie tight so it wouldn’t fly off.

Andy was continuing to push the sled down the hill. “Come on Ben! We can’t let Andy win!” Julia shouted. I heard Andy laugh a loud as we slid to the bottom and jumped off. First! “Second!” Julia yelled soon after.

“Third.” CC said, out of breath.

                “Fourth.” Jinxx said tiredly.

                “Fifth.” Kaitlyn sighed.

“Damn I thought we had that one in the bag!” Danny sighed along with his girlfriend and I just laughed at him.

“Well obviously you didn’t” Andy smirked as he started to climb a tree nearby. Kaitlyn was in Danny’s arms and she looked half asleep.

“I’m putting her in bed.” Danny chuckled. “Kaitlyn, say night.” Danny said to her. She slowly waved as they walked off. We all waved like we were waving at a toddler as they walked back to their house.

Soon the entire group besides me and Andy had gone their separate ways. I hopped off the tree and I smiled at Andy. “Everest, we need to talk…” Andy said softly, walking closer. “Actually, what I need to say doesn’t involve words.” He said taking my hand.

“What is it?” I looked into his eyes. He pulled me by my hand which he held in his palm, pulled me to his chest till his chin was brushing over the top of my head. He took his other hand, pulling up his chin to meet his lips. He pressed his on mine, pulling me closer, letting me take in what I could.

I felt the world turning, the snow moving around us as he held me close. He put his hands on my cheeks, cupping them as he removed his lips. “Did I get my point across?” He asked and I nodded slowly. “Everest, I care about you, I have so many feelings for you and I want you to know that.” He whispered.

“Do you really like me? Will you be there? Will you hold my hand through every battle like a little baby lost on the World War II battle field?” I asked and he chuckled at the last part.

“Yeah but you have to let me do that first.” He grinned.

“And I will, but you have to tell me the question.” I grinned back, intertwining fingers with him.

“Will you take the request in being my girlfriend?” He stared into my eyes that probably showed the surprise, I mean who would have thought he liked me? I mean no one had ever seen something in me. My parents always thought I was a failure, my fellow students in Kentucky thought I was weird I mean what. Are. The. Odds?

“I would never think of declining.” I whispered before touching lips with him again.

“I was so scared you would say no.” He laughed uneasily.

“Why would you think that?” I asked him. He looked away shyly and I grinned at him. I felt snowflakes hit my face. I looked up and I smiled at Andy. “Do you dance?” I ask.

“A bit.” He shrugged. I took his hand and I spun him around the snow. “Dancing in the snow?” He smirked I nodded as I spun around in his arms, twirling in the snow in my black boots. When we met up at the end of our dance our chests touched, our fingers intertwined as he pulled me one last time.

A kiss for a new future as some would say.
