Two Days Later

Anne spent her mornings running around Avonlea and the island she found, oh so interesting. While on this journey, she climbed another tree.

"I wish trees could move. You could meet an even older, kinder tree than you are. Not that you aren't kind! That tree just has lived and seen the earth much longer than you. It's tragically beautiful."

She ran through the forest, picking flowers, making crowns out of every plant she could find, and listening to the chirping birds, trying to sing along. Eventually, a wreckage stood- or rather lay- in front of her.

The once well known hut, where her beloved friends loved to meet, still lay on the ground, surrounded by scattered pieces of blown out statues. Anne mourned for a moment, before pulling herself together.

"I suppose it's time now to restore you to your lively, enchanted self! I can surprise my dear bosom friend Diana and Ruby!"

She got to work immediately, picking up all the broken statues she could find.a

"Come on Blythe, you're supposed to teach me to farm!"

"It's been a while," Gilbert defended himself, "and I never really was that interested, anyway."

They sat there in silence thinking for a while. "Maybe we should fix the fence first," Bash suggested

"Yeah, that pesky fence. I've had my run in with that one," Gilbert laughed painfully.

"Me too," Bash paused, "but two people is better than one."

They went to the shed, grabbing the tool box and planks, heading to the fence.

———

"Jane, Tillie!"

"Ruby!" They laughed.

"I'm so happy you had me over! Being at home was a bore," Tillie laughed.

"It's the opposite for me! Prissy is just about to leave for college! She's leaving today in fact."

"Oh, why would you let me drag you away from her! Wait! Why is she going to college if summer just began?l

"She's staying up there with a distant relative, to get to know the place before she goes to college. We said our goodbyes. It was tearful, and we all figured best I wasn't there. I don't know how I'll get on without Prissy!"

"You'll get on great," Tillie tried to encourage.

"Billy will only have me to bug until school starts back up. I'm afraid he'd become so bored he'd kill me!"

"You don't think he would Jane?" Ruby asked scared.

"Well perhaps not, but that thought keeps crawling up into my head."

"You can always stay with your friends," Tillie suggested. "I'm sure my mother wouldn't mind someone else to come and eat food. She loves to cook."

"I might take you up on that offer!"

They all laughed before Ruby said, "Come on! You haven't seen my room since the fire happened. It's so pretty!"
