"Well yeah, Anne is great!"

"No, you would court her."

"Why would you say that?" Gilbert asked curious.

"It's in the eyes. You can read the soul of someone through their eyes."

"Where did you hear that."

"A little redhead that just left told me she read it in a book."

Bash walked out of his room, "Was that Anne? I missed her?"

"She stayed only for a moment," Gilbert said. "Did you know Diana is missing?"

"Yeah, Mary just told me."

"Well, Anne will be devastated if she can't find her best friend," Gilbert said sadly.

"Maybe you could comfort her Blythe!"

Gilbert smacked his arm, "This isn't a joking time, Bash."

"Oh, she'll be all fine," he said calmly. "Girl lives a good life, she will go back soon."

"I agree with Bash," Matthew said, "now onto more pressing matters."

"Like what?"

"Bash, I think Gilbert has a crush on my Anne."

"Oh, you see Blythe, I told you people would know soon if they didn't already!"

"Bash! Be quiet."

"It's alright," Matthew smiled.

"It is?" Gilbert's eyes widened.

"Yes, you're a good boy, turning into a great man Gilbert. I don't think I'd want any other."

"Thank you sir," he said.

"Now if only Blythe, turning into a man," Bash laughed, "could tell the girl!"

"Take your time," Matthew said, "but that little girl loves romance and nature, and everything in between. I'd think she already liked you if she didn't look at the world the same way."

"How do I make her look at me differently?"

"You let her know how you feel Blythe," Bash said, putting his hand on his forehead exaggeratedly.

"I don't want to tell her until I know she feels the same."

"I can't say I would know how to tell either, but Gilbert, give it a try. You might not even have to make her look at you differently. She loves the world."

Gilbert smiled at Matthew's words. It made him feel good, that maybe, just maybe, Anne did like him.

"Now, let's go back to the field, yeah? I want to learn how to be a farmer, it'll be good money for my baby growing up," Bash said.

"I'll cook lunch," Gilbert said.

"Marilla," Anne said anxious, walking into the house. "Have you heard any news on my dear bosom friend Diana, I am so worried of her never coming home. Why, I'd be devastated!"

     "She is home."

"She is?" A wave of relief washed over Anne.

"Yes. She came to my door and I brought her home. Now, I told Mrs.Barry you would be stopping by after lunch. You also need to tell her that I will have dinner ready by around six. They're coming over."
