**Ochako's POV**

I suddenly found myself facing expansive empty darkness in every direction.

I could see nothing in this place, not even my hand right in front of my face. Just as I was beginning to wonder if this had anything to do with the connection, I felt it.

Or, more accurately, I felt him.

It felt as though his mind was pressing against mine and that if I reached out just a little bit, I could connect with him.

The feeling of his mind pressed so close to mine wasn't necessarily uncomfortable, and with this contact I found myself being able to feel a small amount of the emotion he was experiencing.

I was shocked to feel the amount of hate and sadness emanating from him. I didn't understand where it was coming from.

A moment later Deku seemed to become aware of my presence as I began to detect waves of confusion and curiosity emanating from him now.

I then decided that since he knew I was here, I should try to reach out to him. I gently started to try and connect my mind with his.

It felt natural, almost like moving an arm or a leg as I did so.

However, as soon as Deku seemed to sense the intrusion to his mind, I felt it stiffen and block me out.

I tried to reach him again but it was no use.

I was desperate at this point as I tried with all my might to connect to him, but his mental resistance was too strong.

I dropped to my knees in the darkness as the exhaustion from trying to breach Deku's mind caught up to me.

I was a failure, I couldn't even communicate with Deku let alone help save him.

I felt myself begin to cry again, and as I did I found myself thinking back to the day I met Deku.

The memory conjured up easily and began to play in my mind.

Then...

The most extraordinary thing occurred.

As I began remembering the events more vividly I began to notice faint splashes of color in my vision.

These colors quickly began to form distinct shapes and things until I was seeing the event of my memory as if I were there.

I was astounded by it and I could feel that he was too.

I could see the opening grounds to UA on the day of the entrance exam. I was watching the memory from the outside, like watching a movie.

I saw myself walking up to the entrance taking deep breaths as I went. I remembered fondly how nervous I was that day. I continued to watch the memory play out.

As I got closer to the doorway I stopped for a moment to take the place in. Up ahead I noticed I wasn't the only one.

A few steps ahead of me there was a kid with a bunch of messy green hair piled up on his head who seemed just as nervous as I was. I smiled a little at the thought,

"At least I'm not the only one."

Just as I started to walk towards the entrance again and was about to pass the kid with the messy hair he also started to walk.

But unlike my feet, his didn't seem to want to cooperate as he tripped on his first step.

I quickly reached out and activated my quirk.

"Are you okay?" I asked him.

The kid took a moment to process what was going on before freaking out a little bit.

I giggled as I set him down.

"I stopped you with my quirk, sorry I didn't ask first. But I figured you wouldn't mind me catching you."

The kid kinda just had this weird look on his face as I said that but I thought it was kinda cute.

"Well, I guess I'll see you inside. Bye."

The surrounding image faded as the memory ended. I quickly found myself thinking about the next time I saw him after that though and once again a vibrant scenery filled the expansive darkness.

This time I found myself on the ground with a piece of concrete on my leg.

It hurt a lot and I couldn't free myself to move.

I knew there was a robot coming my way that would no doubt kill me, but there was nothing I could do.

Then through the smoke and dust, I saw the boy with the messy hair. I was confused for a moment as I saw him, and was about to yell at him that he should run while he could.

But then I saw him bend down and suddenly his body seemed to glitch in place for a moment before he shot up into the air like a rocket.

The words I had been about to say died on my lips as I saw him fly up towards the robots head.

He then punched the robot in the face with the same power I had seen him jump with.

The robot was completely annihilated by the attack.

Then I saw that the kid was beginning to fall and he didn't seem to know how to save himself.

At that moment I found the strength to use my quirk on the debris covering my leg to free myself. I then activated my quirk on a big piece of a robot and used it to gain a bit of altitude.

I looked up to see the kid had almost reached me in his descent.

I got ready and as he passed me I stuck my hand out to activate my quirk on him.

I succeeded.

I managed to set him down safely after which I immediately vomited from overuse of my quirk.

As the memory faded, I noticed that Deku had lowered the shields guarding his mind.

Whether he had done so intentionally or not I didn't know. But I wasn't going to waste this chance.

Once again, I tried to reach him, with more force this time.

For a moment, I thought I was going to get through, but then his resistance came back up only this time, I felt something else.

I felt something trying to force its way out of his mind. Just as I was wondering what was going on I felt a burst of energy come from Deku's mind that tore through the space our minds shared, severing the link.

I woke up instantly, covered in sweat and my heart running throwing itself repeatedly at my chest as if trying to escape.
