Isaac and Alex - Book 2

Seventeen...

Isaac lay unmoving for a moment as he looked at Alex's tear stricken face hovering above him. He hesitated to touch her but the moment his fingers touched her cool face he was convinced she was real. He got up and wrapped his arms around her embracing her as if his life depended on it.

Lisa cleared her throat and so breaking up their union. Isaac got up and held out his hand helping Alex up. He looked at his mother and nodded. She shifted around awkwardly.

"What happened?"

Isaac cleared his throat

"Nick kidnapped Mr Amunyela. They were working on some kind of green liquid that seems to be killing vamipres and werewolives."

Lisa bit her nails as she listened intensely. If she convinced Alex to leave with her, Nick would just come after her once they were done there.

"We need to rescue Mr Amunyela or he dies too" Isaac let out.

"We need my mother" Alex let out then she glanced at Isaac "I mean your mother. She was having an affair with Nick. She knows him better than anyone and we need to know what we are dealing with."

Lisa nodded in agreement and beckoned them to follow her.

Lisa's car pulled up at the driveway of the Walkers house and already Alex could feel it was not the same house she used to live in. She reached for the door knob then changed her mind and knocked instead. Elizabeth's eyes widened when she pleasantly laid eyes on Alex but Alex kept a straight face.

"Nick Ezra kidnapped Mr Amunyela. We think he's gonna kill him"

Elizabeth stepped aside to let them in.

"Nick never wanted to heal he wanted to destroy" she said "Hunters never stray or forsake their code of honour not even for family. He wasn't working on a cure, he was working on something that would kill you like a cancer eating away on your supernatural cells"

She glanced at Alex and had a brief flashback of her illness. Alex bit down on her lips.

She exhaled and Isaac took her hand in his. She pulled away rushed into the kitchen leaning over the sink. He took after her and she turned to face him as she was leaning on the counter for support

"Do you think you can just come back into my life?" she lashed out at him pushing back her tears.

"I thought you and I were related"

"Was that really the reason or is it Olivia?"

There was an awkward silence and Isaac could see from where she stood what his actions did to her. She came back for him which meant she felt him just like he will always feel her. He tried but deep down he knew he could not stay away from her.

"I'd rather be nothing to you if I can't have you like boy can have a girl"

She shook her head but he reached out to touch her and she stepped sideways holding her hands up.

"Don't touch me, I can't, I can't" she swallowed and he paused but just enough to leap forward and wrap his arms around her.

Just then Lisa came into the kitchen and they broke lose.

"We better go. Nick will not keep Erastus alive for long" she let out

"Wait" Isaac said "I am still the Alfa and we need my pack but first we have to convince them"

"We have to tell Jacob too" Alex said.

Elizabeth shook her head

"Jacob is an Ezra"

"I know but he is nothing like Nick"

"I hope you are right" Elizabeth said

Jacob tapped his fingers on the kitchen counter of the Walker's house. He glanced at Alex and Isaac staring wide eyed at him. He glanced at their hands. He expected them to hold each other's hands like they used to but they kept a safe distance from each other to avoid that both having their arms crossed.

Jacob sat unmoving for a moment. He contemplated to believe his friends but deep down he knew his father was capable of deceiving and using people to get what he wanted but nonetheless and as pathetic as it sounded in his head he was still his father.

"Just promise me one thing" he said "My father does not get hurt"

He glanced at everyone and they nodded in agreement even Elizabeth and Lisa. Jacob nodded.

"Good. So I'll pretend like I know nothing and open the backdoor for you when no one is looking"

Isaac shrugged.

"Something like that, yeah"

Jacob sat in his car for a moment before he drove off and literally had to remind his dwelling mind that he was driving to concentrate on the road. Nick Ezra was still his father, the man who raised him. There were things he did right but mostly he was a bastard who couldn't save his marriage, maybe he didn't even try. Jacob convinced himself he was doing this for Alex, he owed her that but deep down he knew it was because he tried to do the right thing. You are never too bad to be good and never too good to be bad which is why Nick deserved a second chance to try and be good and see the error of his ways.

Jacob got back home and Nick appeared in his bedroom doorway.

"Have you seen Isaac?" He asked and Jacob shook his head without looking at him. He only looked up once the footsteps disappeared.

They may not have much in common but they are good at lying especially to each other.

Isaac held his breath as he called Flint Barry who reluctantly agreed to meet him at a service station near where he lived.

"Do we know where he is kept?"

"We assume it's at the Ezra house"

"Again, the Ezra house" Flint Barry snorted "We should burn it to the ground this time"

"They have a lab where they experimented on werewolves and vampires. He told me it was a cure but they were all dead which seems to be what he wanted"

Flint shook his head.

"And you sure you can trust Jacob?"

Isaac nodded even though his stomach churned.

"Fine. I will gather the pack and we will meet you tonight"

Isaac bit his nails as he paced the living room. He glanced concerned at Alex sipping on her red juice.

"Maybe you should stay" he let out.

She shook her head.

"I'm not afraid"

"I know but I am. If anything should happen to you"

"So you'll still die for me?"

"Always"

He closed the distance between them and laced his hands in hers.
