"Khaleefa when did you get in?" Hajiya Ameena said as she didn't expect to see khaleefa. He told her he was staying another night in Abuja.
"Ammi, I just came in and when I heard the gateman welcome the ladies I decided to sit here and wait for them to come in, but it looks like princess Aman isn't too happy to see her lovely older brother" Khaleefa said jokingly.
"Toh welcome back. Well, I don't think you deserve a happy welcome after all the things I've been hearing" hajiya Ameena said sarcastically.
"Ah! Me??" Khaleefa replied.
"Yes. You! Now let's all calm down and go pray. We can talk after" hajiya Ameena said as she noticed Aman standing there angrily.

After Magrib prayer, everyone was seated quietly on the table getting ready to have dinner. When hajiya Ameena noticed the tension in the air, she spoke. "I've told Maria not to serve dinner until everyone puts on a smile for me, Aman it's your favorite... pounded yam and vegetable soup, Haleema also your favorite apple tarts & Maryam your favorite peppered gizzard so no food unless I hear some chatter."
"That's discrimination, how about me? Nothing for your first child?" Khaleefa said pretending to be upset.
"Well I thought you'd be back tomorrow and who wants to eat danwake for dinner anyway? Maybe I'll consider you for breakfast" Hajiya Ameena said teasing him.
"Apple tarts? Peppered gizzard ? Pounded yam? Ammi all these are now my favorite. I'm willing to talk for everybody" Haleema said greedily.
"One day your love of food will have you sold, you midget" Maryam teased.
Soon the table was filled with chatter and banter but Aman was just playing around with her food and hajiya Ameena soon noticed.
"It looks like someone is going to sleep hungry, or did your aunties fill you up Aman? I forgot to ask, how was your day?" Hajiya Ameena said, trying to get her daughter in on the conversation.
"No ammi, I didn't eat anything while we were out and it was the usual, our relatives asking when my marriage date is, some accusing me of not letting my younger ones get married and aunty Rukkaya insulted all of us, that's my day in a nutshell" she said almost as if she was reading some uninteresting notes.
"Wow, that must have been a fun day" hajiya Ameena teased.
"Well, Rukkaya isn't anything you're not used to, and since nobody here is forcing you to get married I don't know why you're clouding yourself with negativity Aman, you should expect all of these things to happen." She said now more seriously.
"You're right ammi, thank you but ya khaleefa is." Aman said pointing at her brother with the end of her fork.
"Well how about we deal with him right now girls?" Hajiya Ameena said looking at Maryam and Haleema and they both laughed, nodding in agreement.
"Khaleefa. Why are you trying to force Aman into marrying your friend, Kamal?" Hajiya Ameena said, now a bit more serious.
"I promise, I'm not Ammi.. I just hate seeing them fight. I thought Aman was trying to break up with him when I heard the way he was apologizing to her in the restaurant that's why I intervened. I want her happy, but I was also wrong to pick sides without hearing what was wrong with her. She's supposed to be my first priority.. and if it helps, I told him to back off for a while. Aman I'm really sorry" Khaleefa said honestly. He knew he pushed too many buttons and he truly felt bad for the way he acted. He tried calling and texting aman but she didn't reply or answer so he knew he had to apologize to sister. He failed at putting her first and he didn't want that to happen again.
"You're right khaleefa, now that you've explained yourself, I can see that your intentions were pure and I think Aman sees that too, I raised you to be your sisters keeper so please try and hear her out more. I know Kamal is your friend but she needs you more than he needs you, all your sisters do." Hajiya Ameena advised her son.
"Thank you for apologizing Ya Khaleefa. I appreciate your effort and concern and hopefully things will work out on their own." Aman said and she could feel a weight being lifted off her shoulders. She wasn't one to hold grudges so not texting or calling her brother was starting to get to her. She missed him so much, she was happy her best friend was back on her side again.
"Ya Aman, can you eat your food now? These gizzards are so delicious" Haleema said.
"See your mouth like gizzard. You're such a glutton" Aman replied and everyone laughed.
The table was soon filled with laughter and tons of chatter, after they prayed Isha, Ammi decided to lay on the couch as they continued to talk about various things. She gave her advice when needed till she fell into a light sleep.
At around 10:30, when the girls were ready to go to their room, they woke her up.
"Ammi, you old woman, wake up. You have to go to work tomorrow." Aman teased.
