This takes place in fourth grade because of small Jeremy and Michael. Alright let's get into this:
Jeremy rushed in carrying his oversized spiderman, his eyes all puffy and red. "Jeremy you're late," the teacher stated.
"S-sorry Mrs. Brown," Jeremy said quietly, he said that so quietly that Mrs. Brown could barely hear him. She noticed his puffy eyes and sniffling, and a sympathetic look came across her face.
"It's okay just go sit down, we'll talk about this after school," Mrs. Brown replied. Jeremy went to take his seat next to his best friend Michael.
"You look awful," Michael stated, Jeremy just keeping quiet, avoiding eye contact. There was a pause of silence before Michael started again, "Are you okay Jeremy?"
Jeremy just shrugged his shoulders causing his best friend to worry all the way through English class and Math class and Science class until finally, it was recess.
Michael and Jeremy were out on the swings, their usual spot for recess, except Jeremy who didn't feel like swinging today. "Jeremy, what's wrong? You're making me worry," Michael asked his best friend.
Jeremy let out a long sigh, knowing that he would have to tell his friend everything. "My mom didn't come home last night, I tried asking my dad where she was, but he just told me to go to bed. I stayed up waiting for the sound of her to come home, but I never heard anything. I woke up and she still wasn't home. What if she's gone forever, Michael?"Jeremy's eyes started to tear up. He just wanted to see his mom again, he wanted to know if she was okay. Michael tried to take in all the information Jeremy just told him. Michael was determined to help his friend.
"My moms are your moms now," Michael stated. Jeremy turned his head towards Michael, a tear sliding down his rosy red cheeks.
"That's not how it works," Jeremy said quietly.
"I don't care if that's how it works. You deserve a mom Jeremy, one who won't leave. What's better than one mom? Two moms!" Michael exclaimed jumping off of the swing. Jeremy let out a weak smile. What would he do if it wasn't for Michael?
There was a short silence between the two best friends before Jeremy broke it, "Michael can you promise me something?" Michael nodded his head and Jeremy continued, "Promise me you won't leave me behind, ever."
"Of course Jeremy, only if you promise me that you won't leave me behind," Michael said. Jeremy nodded his head. They hugged and that was the first time in that day that Jeremy had a true, full smile.
That day was a day that would stick with each of them for years for different reasons. Jeremy would think of that day as the day where his mother never came back home. Michael would think of that day as the day where he made a promise with Jeremy that they would never leave each other behind, no matter what.
