The Nightmares Come - Bandstand Oneshot

Trigger Warning: Fire, Nightmares, Mention of death

Donny's POV

My eyes drifted off, I was so tired, I could barely stay awake. I shot them open, I can't sleep. The nightmares they always surround me. I can't take another one. 

Eventually, I gave in. I had to, I haven't slept for 4 days. 

I woke up, surrounded by nothing but darkness. 

"Donny," a voice said, I turned around nothing was there, just pitch black. "Donny!" The voice yelled. "Why Donny? I thought we were friends. Do you not feel bad for what you did! YOU KILLED ME DONNY, IT'S ALL YOUR FAULT!" 

"M-Michael I'm sorry I didn't mean to," I said tears pouring out of my eyes onto my cheeks. 

"Come out and face me, Donny, face your mistakes, you're a failure. Do you not feel guilty?" It felt like my whole world was spinning, I fell down to the ground. A large, loud, ringing shot through my ears. 

I tried to lift my head up and when I succeeded, he was there. Standing there was the man I killed. Michael Trojan. My eyes grew wide, I always only heard him, I never saw him. "You love her Donny. You took my life and now you want to take my wife!" Michael yelled. 

"Michael-"

"Save your god damn breath, Donny. And to think I thought you were my best friend," Michael crouched down and lifted my head up with his finger, "You'll burn in hell for all you've done." The darkness grew red, flames surrounded me and Michael. 

"At least I went quickly, you, you're going to die a slow and painful death, goodbye friend." Michael disappeared into the flames. 

I was left alone, surrounded by nothing except for fire. "Michael wait!" I yelled, "I'm sorry. I didn't mean to Michael please, come back," I cried. I sat there crying. 

I knew what this was, this was a nightmare. "I want to wake up," I cried. "Wake up! Wake up Wake up!" I yelled repeatedly. 

The flames grew closer. 

"Donny!" I heard someone cry. "Donny wake up, please! It's just a nightmare!"  

I shot up and turned to see Julia shaking me awake. Julia pulled me into a hug as soon as she saw that I was awake. "You're safe Donny, I'm here, I'm here." 

A tear fell down my cheek, I was crying. "Julia," I said quietly. 

"Shh it's okay Donny, I'm here, you don't need to speak."

We pulled away from each other. "I'm sorry."

"Sorry? Sorry for what?" Julia asked me. I sat there silent, debating if I should tell her about what I just dreamt about. I couldn't, it would only bring up bad memories. "Donny, sorry for what?"

"I'm not a good person," I said quietly. Julia scoffed.

"You're right you're not a good person," Julia said I shot my head up when she said those words, they pierced my straight in my heart, "You're a great person. I mean look at what you've all done!" Julia said standing up, "You made a place where veterans can be veterans, Donny because of you more and more people are realizing what all of you have faced during the war. You guys heroes. Don't ever forget that."

Julia sat back down and took my hand in hers, "I love you, Julia," I said quietly. 

Julia let out a small laugh, "I love you too my Nova star."
