Taya POV
Jesse is cursing up a storm and carrying me back towards the pack house, "shit shit shit shit shit, FUCK!"
I'm very confused. I know it has something to do with Jasmine challenging me to mating rights or whatever but I don't really know what that means. "Jesse calm down, everything is fine. Just tell me whats wrong", I try to reason with him but he doesn't want to hear it. He just keeps saying shit over and over again. He is really starting to freak me out and I don't know how to calm him down.
"Why did you have to go down there? We could have put her to death and then she wouldn't have had the chance to challenge you, fuck", he asks although I can tell it's a rhetorical question.
"I'm sorry Jesse, what's the big deal anyways", I ask him concerned.
We get to his office to find Max and Tawny already there. "Jasmine challenged Taya to the mating rights", Jesse tells them.
Max looks shocked and Tawny gasps, "oh no. We can't let her go through with this. She'll die".
"Wait, wait, wait. What? I'll die!", I exclaim.
Max shakes his head and stays silent.
I look at Jesse, "can you please tell me what a challenge to the freaking mating rights is"?
Jesse looks at me solemnly, "baby, I never wanted this for you. I just, fuck! The mating rights is just what it sounds like. It's the rights to mate to a certain wolf or she-wolf. When a wolf challenges another to the mating rights it's a fight to the death".
"I have to fight Jasmine to the death", I ask.
"Hell no, you're not fighting her at all. I have to find a way out of this. We can go! I'll give up my Alpha title and we can move to a new country and if she comes to try to find us I'll kill her", Jesse tells me still holding me in his arms.
"Jesse you can't do that, you love your pack and your responsibility is to them", I tell him.
"My biggest responsibility is to my mate and I will not allow you to be harmed", he say sitting down in his office chair with me still in his arms.
I'm sitting in his lap and thinking silently, "well why can't we just like banish her or something before the challenge or just finish mating before she has the chance"?
"Jesse and you would be banished as well if the werewolf council ever found out. They take their laws very seriously", Max tells me.
I start picking at my fingers, a nervous habit of mine and Jesse grabs my hands and kisses them. "I'm scared Jesse", I tell him.
"You're not fucking fighting her so there is no reason to be scared. We are leaving", he tells me.
"Jesse, you do have another option", Max says and pauses. He looks at Jesse and whatever he is thinking seems to click with Jesse all of the sudden.
"No, no, no, no, no! Not happening", Jesse says.
"Jesse it's the only way this can actually work out. There are members of the werewolf council all around the world if anyone of them catch you you're both dead", Max tells him.
"What is it", I ask.
Jesse shakes his head and sighs, "Max thinks since you're already half way mated to an alpha you would be a strong candidate to beat her, if you went through the change".
"Went through the change, you mean became a werewolf. Is that even possible", I look up a Jesse.
"No and that's why we're not doing it", he says matter-of-factly.
"It is possible, it's just very rare for a human to make the change successfully. Many end up dying during the process", Max says.
"How many is many", I ask Max.
He looks at me sympathetically, "about 13 percent shift successfully".
I'm screwed. I'm so screwed. "Jesse, this is the only option that makes sense", I am trying to get him to look at me but he is staring at Max clearly upset.
"Look at me, Jess", he finally makes eye contact. "I can do it. I'm partially mated to an Alpha so my chances are better than just regular humans", I tell him, "change me into a werewolf".
"Baby, I can't. I can't lose you. Just please go away with me", he begs.
"I will not let you leave your pack. They are the only family you have left and you're not leaving them because of me", I can feel myself starting to get upset.
"You are my family. You are the most important thing in the world to me. Maybe we can come back and visit but I need you safe", he tells me.
"I'm not leaving so you either turn me into a werewolf or you leave me to fight Jasmine as a human", I staring him in the eye so that he knows I'm serious.
"Please don't make me, I love you. I need you with me baby", he's begging and it breaks my heart but my mind is already made up.
"Someone else can turn me if you'd like but I'm doing it", I say hoping my voice sounds strong.
