Jesse's POV

After the conversation with my mate and my beta in my office, Taya and I went to the pack doctor to learn more about her chances of surviving the change. We were sitting in the examination room waiting for the results to the blood test.

"If your chances are too low I'm not changing you and I won't allow anyone else to either", I tell Taya. She is sitting on the bed swinging her legs like an adorable child.

"I'll figure out a way to do it with or without your permission Jess. I love you, but I've made up my mind", she says in a soft voice.

I feel my wolf getting angry so I force myself to calm down. I go to her and hug, her inhaling her scent. It helps assuage my feelings. It frustrates me that she won't let me protect her. Dragging her onto a plane kicking and screaming is still not entirely out of the question.

"Why do you have to be so damn stubborn", I ask her kissing the top of her head. Before she can answer the doctor comes in.

"Hello Alpha, Luna", the doctor gives a little bow. "I have some good news, Taya has some werewolf blood in her. Maybe a grandparent or a great grand parent, but it's definitely there. This increases her chances of successfully changing greatly. There is something a bit strange about this gene though. I believe she will be partially white".

"Like a white wolf", I ask my hopes rising. White wolves are naturally stronger so I figure this will help her out a bit.

"Yes Alpha. She won't be pure because I'm assuming you will be the one to change her, since you are a pure black wolf I'm predicting she will be a mix of white and black", the doctor tells us.

"So what are her chances looking like percentage wise", I ask excitedly.

"I'd say maybe 55 to 60 percent chance that she will make it, factoring in that she is partially mated to an alpha", the doctor said.

I wish that number was higher but it is much better than 13 percent. I'm holding her hand and she is smiling at the doctor. She says thank you and the doctor leaves to give her some pain medicine for the change. He tells her it will burn through her system in a second because her body temperature will rise but that the pills might help for a short time.

We take the medicine and leave the office taking her to our bedroom.

"When is this challenge going to be", my lovely mate asks once we reach the room.

I lay down on the bed and watch her remove her shoes, "you have 21 days from the challenge date". There's a pause then, "I've decided to cut down on her food supply".

"For the fight? You want her to be weak. That's not really fair, is it?", she asks. Jasmine has tried to destroy us, destroy her. Jasmine plans to kill Taya and Taya knows it, yet she still worries about the girl eating enough.

"It doesn't matter if it's fair, it just matters that you win", I tell her.

She has a weird look on her face but refuses to say anything more. I sigh, "come here babygirl".

She walks over to the bed and lays on top of me. She's snuggling her face into my neck and it feels like heaven. "It seems like shit just keeps happening and happening and I don't know why this is going on but I know that we'll come out stronger on the other side of this together", I kiss her forehead.

"I'm scared. I'm so scared Jess but I would do it if I had a 2 percent chance of surviving, as long as it meant that I could be with you forever", she whispers into my neck.

"I love you, I love you, I will never stop loving you", I mumble into her hair.

   Ditto kiddo

We fall asleep in each others arms.
