The next day, Lafayette had a handle of most things in the office. He had arranged meetings, and the silence was not as awkward as before. It was like there was something that changed between them.
Nearing the end of the week, Lafayette studied the brooding man, writing furiously. He wondered what he thought about all day.
"Sir?" He asked, pushing his work slightly to the side. George raised his eyebrow in acknowledgment.
" I don't mean to be rude, but why do we have to work in silence," he asked, still trying to figure out the man.
"I'm a busy man, and working in silence makes me get things done effectively and efficiently. If you would rather not work in silence, I suppose we could take breaks to talk about things," he said, his buisness tone making Laf furrow his eyebrows.
Why did he have to be so cold all the time? George looked taken aback, and Laf realized he had said it out loud. Lafayette tried stumbling out an apology before the man beckoned him towards his desk.
He nearly tripped over his feet, before he had reached the desk. His head down, scared to even look at his face.
George sighed out," I'm sorry. I'm just so focused on everything, I don't mean to be rude." Laf peered up at him, questioning.
"How about I take you to dinner. It's a Saturday and I know you might have other plans, but I would really like to have dinner with you. We can even leave a little early."
Now, Lafayette was extremely confused. Dinner? Did this mean a date? No of course not.
"I.. I guess I could do that. I would have to go home to get ready," he stumbled.
Another outing with him. Lafayette wasn't sure what George was trying to do. Lafayette shook his head, pushing out all the inappropriate thoughts.
"Alright," George grumbled, turning to his work. "We can leave at 7, and I will pick you up at 8," he said.
Before Lafayette knew it, he was back at work, excited to be going out with the man again.
