Teddy Bear

Dangling from the rafters;
A single, dusty teddy bear
Left behind by loved ones;
Suspended in a silent prayer.

It's crippled, crusty body
Limp against the wood;
Unmoving and unused;
Wanting to be understood.

Staring at me through
Beaded, little, black eyes;
His hushed whisper tells
An unforgiving recognize.

My endless pain resonates;
The bear starts to shift;
Its plush, stubby, arm tears;
Unsettling it, hard and swift.

I watched in sad horror;
Witnessing it's very death;
My measly, old teddy bear
Taking our shared, last breath.
