"The bible says..."

Yeah lets talk about that and examine it. The most popular one is Leviticus 18:20.

"You shall not lie with a male as with a woman; it is an abomination"

"If a man lies with a male as with a woman, both of them have committed an abomination; they shall surely be put to death; their blood is upon them"

These are the lines what are used to say homosexuality is wrong. Lets examine these two lines and pick out a little bit of factuality shall we? First of all the word "Abomination" does not mean 'amorally wrong' it means against ritual. In the previous lines before this it is also said that eating shrimp, pork, wearing linen and wool together, and putting two diffrent kinds of seeds in the same ground. It refers to the fact that in the bible it is thought against ritual for men to release seed (as gross as that sounds) that is not used for procreation. So even masterbation is a NO-NO. Well I guess we're all screwed then huh?

The next bit is dicussing Sodom and Gamorrah. In the passage about the two doomed cities it is said 'Let these men out so we may know them (Or have sex with them depending on the translation)"

It is true that this line talks about men haveing sex with other men but to put it in context it was thought in that age to be a humilating act to have anal sex with a man against his will. Any sex against anyones will is humiliating and rape was considered a way to punish and devalue an enemy. The undercover angels that are asked to be given up to the men of Sodom were actually breaking the law since the people of Sodom were told not to allow guests into thier homes (a jewish custom saying that any person who is found on one's doorstep was to be welcomed into the home like an honored guest) which would mean spending wealth that the greedy Sodomites wanted for themselves.

BUT the bible is not without its own lovely pro-gay passages as well. It has been argued that the story of David and Jonathan in the book of Samuel is a homosexual relationship in which It is described as:

'And it came to pass, when he had made an end of speaking unto Saul, that the soul of Jonathan was knit with the soul of David, and Jonathan loved him as his own soul.'

And heres another lovely one:

'I am distressed for thee, my brother Jonathan: very pleasant hast thou been unto me: thy love to me was wonderful, passing the love of women.'

So there we go. :}
