'Thank you.'

The moment those words slipped past my lips,
I was filled with regret.

In an urgency to escape from the situation,
I ran to my room and inadvertently slammed the door behind me hard,
causing the old floorboards to rumble
beneath my toes.

Everything was a mistake.

I shouldn't have let my guard down so easily
in front of that guy.

That...that...no-good...guy.

My mind was drawing a blank,
unable to come up with a new derogatory nickname.

Finding myself weary from the effort,
I gave up and slid down to the floor--
my knees finally collapsing from a delayed fatigue.

I took a deep breath to calm myself,
but my hands clenched
at the thought of having talked so nonchalantly to a stranger.

I told myself I wouldn't have anything to do with the outside world,

yet...

My fists tightened.

'Something' that wasn't supposed to happen happened today...

When 'something' passes,
everything else will be set into motion.

'Something' can never be taken back.

Once again,

outside of my control,

'something' has occurred.
