Despite my heart-filled declaration to not care about Ichinomiya anymore,
following through proved to be a lot more challenging than expected.

"...thank you."

Ichinomiya Megumi's small voice
whispered--

the sweetness in her tone dripping
on my ears like honey.

A pair of faint rosy cheeks
as delicate as an antique painting
bloomed in front of my eyes.

And then they turned away in a fluster...

'Ah, how cute,'

I found myself thinking.

"...how...cute...hehe..."

"What is?"

An unexpectedly gruff voice retorted.

"...my princess, Ichinomiya."

I answered dreamily.

Barely a second later,
a sharp pain pierced my head,
and I woke up with a start.

The classical literature teacher was staring down at me
with textbook in hand
and a tired look in his eyes.

"Yamasato, if you've got enough energy to dream about pointless things,
you should use it to study more often."

Cue an ensemble of chuckles from the entire class.

"Did you hear that? He said 'my princess, Ichinomiya.'"

"Ha! How embarrassing!"

"But who's Ichinomiya?"

"You know, the girl who hasn't come to class since the first day."

"Ah! That girl, huh?
Heard she's a deranged otaku*
who lives in an abandoned house."

"For real? So creepy!
Looks like birds of a feather flock together."

"Prince Yamasato and Princess Ichinomiya...pfffft."

"Misfit couple of the century, bwahahaha!"

I glanced out the window
and tried my best to ignore the snarky remarks.

Tch,

what do these losers know anyway?
