Today would've been classified as laid-back for (Y/N). Nothing nefarious or relatively bad was scheduled. All that the day really entailed was three meet-ups. The first one was someone who wanted (Y/N) to straight up kill their cousin, which they not-so politely declined. The second was a mother and daughter who had been abandoned and simply needed some help to get back up on their feet. (Y/N) simply wrote them a check, making sure they had more than enough money to survive stably. The third was with a banker who was being forced into retirement. The woman desperately needed a new job. All (Y/N) had to do was make sure there was a high enough position open for her.
Today would've been fine, relaxed, and simple.
A certain brown-haired police officer had to go and ruin that all.
Laurance has caught a glimpse of (Y/N)'s mask as they tried to rush home. Not even a few seconds later, he was chasing after them. He left Garroth alone with little more than a vague idea of what exactly what was going on. Reinforcements were called in, guns were fired.
All of that mess led to (Y/N) hiding behind a dumpster, breath caught in their throat as they did their best to remain still. Their mask had been shattered to pieces. The pieces were strewn about on the concrete, taunting them as they struggled to stay calm.
The heavy footfalls (Y/N) associated with the police force were loud, coming to a stop too close for comfort. Luck wasn't on their side today. The tell-tale sound of a gun being loaded was more than enough confirmation.
The sun had begun to set not too long ago, the rest of the city bathed in a warm orange glow. This particular alleyway didn't have a single ray of sunlight illuminating it. It was a blessing, (Y/N) could count on the relative darkness to keep their face hidden. The blessing would only last so long, God knows how long until the automated lights would turn on. They hoped they wouldn't be around by then.
"Move away from the dumpster," an all too familiar and uptight voice yelled. Laurance had really outdone himself that day, at least in (Y/N)'s eyes. He had somehow managed to catch them off guard and used that one second of confusion to his advantage. That one second managed to make an awful lot of trouble.
There really were only two options for (Y/N): follow orders and risk getting shot or continue hiding and risk getting shot. Either way, their life was hanging on a thread. They moved out, alarms blaring in their mind. Showing their biggest adversaries their 'secret identity' was an absolutely terrible idea. But it could lead to a small chance to escape this sticky situation. They'd take escape any day. "Seems like this game of cat and mouse is finally coming to an end, doesn't it?"
While (Y/N) tried to play this all off as normal, Laurance and Garroth were surprised. It's not everyday you see the Fox without their mask on. The other officers shared Laurance and Garroth's shock, some appeared skeptical of this all. Surely it couldn't have been this easy?
"If you come along without putting up a fight, we won't hurt you," Garroth said, trying to commit (Y/N)'s face to memory. Their eyes were the same as always, pools of (e/c) sparkling with mischief. Their hair, which was usually hidden by a hood, was (h/c) and wild. It was a mess, most likely from the chase. It was a safe bet to say their smile was more of a smirk, lacking any hint of kindness.
"That sounds like a threat."
"That's because it is," Laurance butted in, stopping Garroth from getting to reply. "I'd advise you drop whatever act you're pulling as well."
(Y/N) laughed, the sound echoing. "I don't get what you mean. This is the genuine me."
"Really? Sounds like bullshit."
"Better calm down, Zvahl. Wouldn't want to lose your cool early on, it would make the rest of this evening so much more boring."
Before Laurance or anyone else had a chance to react, gunshots rang out through the alley. Most officers, save for Laurance, turned to try and find the source of them. One of the younger officers, fairly new to the whole 'being a police thing', was shot right in the shoulder. (Y/N) smiled at Laurance, whose gun was pointed right at their chest. "Looks like my friends have arrived," they said, "I'm going to have to cut this chat short."
