No Doubt

Really, Dante didn't know why he agreed to be blindfolded. He should've changed his yes to a no when The Fox pulled out the black fabric with a grin. At the time, it didn't seem like a big issue. Now, as he was being led up a flight of stairs, Dante really wished he didn't go along with it.

When they reached their final destination, The Fox removed the blindfold. Dante was shocked by the large, open apartment he looked at. Everything was surprisingly neat and well-kept. He had expected where they lived to be messy and wild, cracked and broken down. Seeing a fairly normal looking home was certainly the opposite of anything Dante could've ever imagined.

"Yo, (Y/N)! I sort of need help over here!" A surprisingly familiar voice called from somewhere in the apartment. Dante looked at The Fox, eyebrows raised and shock coming off him like waves. (Y/N)? He refused to believe it was the same (Y/N) he knew, but as his mind began to make the connections it was making more sense. They both shared the same eyes, bright and expressive. They held themselves in the same way as well, strong and confident with anxiety hiding right under the surface.

The Fox (or should it be (Y/N)?) looks at him, their eyes sparkling with knowing. They knew Dante had pieced it together and they seemed to be finding great pleasure in it. "So you lied to me?"

"A bit, yeah." (Y/N) took off their mask, feeling no need to hide their face anymore. "But congrats on piecing it together!" Their smile was as charming as Dante remembered it, spreading across their face much like a child's would. Oh how he hated himself for the way his heart beat as (Y/N) continued to grin at him.

"I should have the right mind to leave now," Dante said, though it came out as more of a whisper. He was making himself small, his shoulders hunching and his arms pressed right to his side.

(Y/N) chuckled, placing a hand on Dante's arm. "Yes, but you know you don't want to." They spoke right by Dante's ear in little more than a whisper, sending shivers down his back.

"(Y/N)!" The voice yelled once again, angrier and harsher this time.

"Coming!" They looked towards Dante "Stay here, take a seat." With that they left Dante by himself, disappearing in a doorway. He heard snippets of conversation: (Y/N) laughing while calling the unknown person a prick, the person responding with 'You know you love me' in such an affectionate voice.

A minute passes, then two. At some point, Dante began to lose track. He just sat on the couch, staring at the immaculate ceiling and letting his thoughts run wild. (Y/N) had come back, walking right up to Dante. "Now that that's all taken care of, you need to meet a few people. You'll be working with 'em so it's fairly important." When Dante looked at them in confusion, they huffed a laugh and rolled their eyes. "Just follow me."

"Zane? You know Perez?" They had led Dante down the hallway and into one of the many rooms lining the hall. (Y/N) had poked their head into the room, motioning Dante to stay still and quiet.

"Obviously, I'd be an idiot if I didn't."

"Well," (Y/N) motioned for Dante to follow them into the room, "He's apart of the team now!" The strained enthusiasm was as clear as day, even as they plastered a smile onto their face. Dante looked up at that moment, looking at the face of someone who was declared missing.

"Are you insane?!"

"Just a smidge!" (Y/N) was now engaged in an argument with Zane, who expressed his concerns for only their safety. He didn't mention his own safety or anyone else's. All he prioritized was (Y/N) and (Y/N) only. It would've been romantic if Dante weren't focused on a very important detail.

"You're Zane Ro'Meave," Dante said, gaining the attention of blue and (e/c) eyes. He was staring at one spot on the wall, vision unfocused. "Garroth said you were killed, right alongside your father." He was focused on Zane now, who looked so uncomfortable the second his father was mentioned.

Zane cleared his throat, crossing his arms. "You know my brother?"

"We worked together."

"How is he?"

"He says he's doing great, but anyone can see right through that."

"He never was a good liar."

Silence fell upon the room, as Zane tried to fight back any tears. He missed his brothers. At night, when he was left alone with his thoughts, he often wondered how they grew. He had always imagined Vylad to be traveling the world, taking photographs and writing articles wherever he went. He always liked to imagine Vylad standing under the Eiffel Tower, looking up in amazement with a childish grin on his face. His thoughts of Garroth's future were more lost and differentiated, mixed in with thoughts of him becoming the police chief or maybe the president.

(Y/N) broke the silence with a small cough and an apologetic smile. They were close to reaching out and hugging Zane, the thought dancing on the edges of their mind. Seeing the man sad hurt them, bringing a strong sense of sadness in their heart.

"You should probably let Trav and Aaron know who you dragged in," Zane said, focus only on (Y/N) and not sparing Dante a glance.

"Okay, sure." And just like that, (Y/N) was dragging Dante to an office of sorts. A man with black hair was sitting at a desk, speaking to a man with white hair and stunning green eyes. Dante definitely knew the green eyed male who was chatting up a storm. He'd know that carefree smile anywhere.

"Good morning, my dear sirs," (Y/N) said. "Have I got some news!"

"You got Perez?" the black haired man said, boredom dripping off his voice. His disinterest was nearly tangible.

"Yes I did! How'd you know?"

"He's standing right behind you."

(Y/N) looked at Dante who indeed was right behind them. "Dante, you ruined the surprise." Dante couldn't find it in himself to really care about that.

"Hey Travis," Dante said. It should be noted that when he focused on something, Dante never danced around it or allowed for small talk. He always went straight to the point. "It's been a while, huh?"

(Y/N) and the black haired male looked to Travis, shock on their faces. It seemed as though the both of them were asking Travis what Dante was talking about. "Hi Dante." His voice was the same as Dante remembered it, light and playful. Now it was deeper, an added maturity that he must've gained over time.

"Hi, yeah, what the fuck?" the black haired male asked. He wasn't talking to Dante, he was talking to Travis who stood there with a shrug.

"Well, you see, the thing is, Dante and I went to the same high school. We were best buds too, attached at the hip. We split for college and, uh, well, you two know the rest."

"And you say this now? This is real damn important, Travis!"

"Aaron, relax." (Y/N) placed a hand on Aaron's shoulder, calming him almost instantly. His dark eyes looked at them with a deep fondness in them, even as they gave him a glare. "He told us now, better than never.'

"Didn't take you for the optimist," Dante interrupted, getting a glare from Aaron who looked close to ripping the blue eyed man's throat out.

The three (Aaron, Travis, and (Y/N)) spoke and argued, ignoring Dante completely. He should've left then, took the opportunity before he could get too involved with the mess of criminals. He didn't. Like (Y/N) had said, he couldn't leave. Somehow, someway, (Y/N) had him hooked. Dante couldn't have left even if he wanted to, his heart would ache and protest. His mind would yell and scream about the missed the chances. His body would effectively work against him to keep him stuck by (Y/N) and their intoxicating smile. Dante really didn't mind though.
