It was finally the weekend again, and I was sitting at home, bored out of my mind. I was trying to find something to watch on TV, but I had no luck.
All of a sudden, I heard my phone ring. I picked it up and looked at the screen.
"Alex?" I asked no one in particular.
I answered the phone and put it up to my ear.
"Hello?"
"Hey." He said.
"What's up?" I asked, confused as to why he would be calling me.
"Do you know what's wrong with Austin?" He asked.
"No, why?"
"He hasn't answered any of my texts or calls all day."
"Same here." I said. "I just figured maybe he was busy or something. I didn't want to bother him."
"No, something's up."
"Well, have you tried going to his house?" I asked.
"Nope. You should though. He'll probably talk to you." He suggested.
"Alright, I'll go over there right now. I'll text you later to let you know what happened."
"Okay, bye."
"Bye." I hung up.
"Mom, I'll be home later." I shouted before leaving the house.
I walked to Austin's doorstep and gently knocked on the door. Moments later, Michele opened the door and let me inside.
"Hi, Michele. Is Austin alright? Alex told me he hasn't been answering his calls and texts."
"He's been having a bad day."
"What happened?" I asked.
"We were looking at pictures this morning, and he saw some of his dad. He started asking me a bunch of questions about him as he looked through the pictures, and I guess he just got bummed out. He's been in his room for a while, and I can't get him to come down." She said sadly.
"Is it okay if I go talk to him?"
"Of course, honey." She smiled.
I nodded as I turned around. I walked up the stairs, and once I reached the door, I knocked softly. There was no answer. I knocked again, but nothing.
"I'm coming in, okay?"
I turned the knob and pushed the door open. I saw him sitting on the edge of his bed, with his head in his hands, and his back facing me.
I closed the door, and made my way over to him.
"What's wrong?" I asked.
Even though I already knew, I wanted to hear it from Austin's perspective.
He looked up at me with red eyes. He had been.. crying?
"I'm just having a bad day, that's all." He said quickly then looked away, tears occasionally rolling down his face.
I've never seen him cry, so I had no idea of what to do. I didn't know if I should comfort him, or let him be.
I took a chance and put my hand on his back.
"Do you want to talk about it?" I asked.
He sighed before he started talking. "Me and my mom were looking at some pictures and there were some of my dad. I was asking her some things, and the more we talked about him, the sadder I got."
