My alarm clock began playing my favorite playlist in the distance as my eyes fluttered open. I hadn't gotten much sleep the night previously due to me spending extra hours staring at the text I received. So many things ran through my head it caused me to have trouble shutting my eyes.
It was all so confusing as I sat up rubbing my eyes. I wonder if I should have texted the stranger back... I look over at my phone still on my desk charging as I shook my head as if I was telling myself no. Maybe it wasn't even his number...But then why would someone just randomly text "You're welcome"?
Scuffing my feet as I drag myself to my closet I begin picking out an outfit in an attempt to block out any more thoughts or energy going towards that text. It wasn't that big of a deal it wasn't even like I would see him again anyways. After multiple attempts, I finally decided on a pair of dark jeans and a black loose fitted long sleeve.
I wasn't sure how cold it was outside but I reached for my black peacoat draping it over my shoulders before heading out the door.
The cool morning air blew my long hair back coating against my neck as goosebumps rose up my exposed skin. There was something about fall days that I really liked. Not to hot and not to cold and the air always smelled like a fresh pine.
Jumping on the bus outside my house I made my way to the bookstore/coffee shop I loved so much. I had been visiting since I moved down to the city and it quickly became my sanctuary. I was such a frequent customer I knew almost every employee and the owner treated me like some celebrity. I mean, I guess I was in the hero world, but he treated me like a celebrity before any of that. Probably because I've spent so much money there.
I chuckle to myself as the bus speeds down the busy intersection. Watching the cars hurry by as my attention drifts off to the events of yesterday.
The blonde haired figure was so vividly in my mind that it was beginning to become a nuisance. Why would someone help a complete stranger? That guy didn't even know me yet he would not take no for an answer. He stayed by my side because he knew deep down I needed help. Was I that helpless looking?
Screeching to a halt I felt my whole body jerk from the movement waking me up from my own thoughts. Blinking my eyes a few time I look up to see that we were at my stop. Shifting in my seat I quickly put a strand of my long dark hair behind my ear before I get up. Hurriedly making my way to the door and jump down into the sidewalk below.
This part of town was always a bit quieter than the city. A small tucked away pocket that was my secret little treasure. I had plans to move here one day maybe when I have retired my hero status.
Clutching my black purse close as I walked the empty sidewalk looking around at the small details around me. The beautifully colored storefronts, some kids playing, and a couple sat happily on the bench.
For whatever reason, the couple stops me for a minute. I hesitate while dragging my feet a bit trying my best to not make it obvious that I'm staring. The two stared lovingly at each other as if no one else was around. The strawberry blond girl giggled happily in her lover's arms as he beamed looking at her beauty.
It must be nice to feel that much love. To feel that pretty. She laughed without a care as the handsome guy watched with fascination. As the wind blew the curls in front of her face the woman turned her head making eye contact with me. Panicking I quickly shoot my gaze towards the cement sidewalk and speed towards the store. Too embarrassed to look up again and see if I was caught.
