Firefly

A firefly is our day to night cycle
Condensed to mere seconds
They're the stars within our reach
Brightening our surroundings
With their emanating lights
If only for a brief lapse of time

You may lose track of it
Despite keen observation
Surely another will take its place

I look at the constant of lamps
With an outlet that's never filled
Until it flickers one time too many
And promptly loses its will
Then we switch out the bulb
For additional time to kill

Darkness is hard to avoid
But what you ought to know
A void is necessary
To help distinguish their glow
