I was not able to form any words as I looked at Pattie with wide eyes and my mouth slightly open, not entirely grasping what she had just told me a few moments ago.

I could not even begin to imagine what she going through right now and in her eyes, I could see that she was hurt and that she was on the verge of crying but was holding it back, it seriously broke my heart to see her like that.

I did want to say something to her, anything to make her feel better but it was like I had lost my ability to speak so the two of us were surrounded in silence and I tried to fully comprehend and what was going on right now...

It broke my heart that a very amazing woman had now left this earth. Justin's grandmother was truly an angel and a blessing. I had only known her for a few months but it those months she really grew on me. She would always have the funniest conversation with Justin and I and she would always cook when I came over and overall mad me feel at home in her house. I admired her strength because even though she had been sick, which I totally would not have guessed if they had not told me, she was doing all the things as if they were nothing and walking around with a good mindset which was very contagious. She had such positive energy everytime I was around her and it saddend me that she was not going to be around anymore.

And Justin...

I did not want to imagine how he was feeling and how broken he was. He loved his grandmather so much, so so much, that he was willing to move to America from Canada just to be by her side and to take care of her during her sickness. Before I got to know her, Justin always told me the nicest things about her and he was always beaming and super happy talking about her and it was so important to him that she got to know me when the time was right. Justin would have done everything for her, literally everything. She was a very big part of his life and played a very important role for Justin and now that she was not here anymore, I knew that he was not going to take that well and that it was going to fuck him up in some kind of way.

"I..." I began to say but I did not know the right words to say and I did not know what she wanted to hear at that moment, so I just put my arms around her and hugged her tightly. Pattie hugged me back and shortly after we were in complete silence again, she began crying. It was just a few quiet sobs first but then she broke down and began crying out loud in my chest as she held me tighter now, letting everything out that she had been holding onto since I had arrived here and hearing the pain in her voice when she cried made me shed a few tears as well. "I'm so sorry for your loss Pattie," I whispered to her while rubbing the back of her hand in a soothing manner, not really knowing if my words were consoling enough or if that was even what she wanted to hear.

Pattie continued to cry until she stopped a little while later and pulled away from the hug whilst drying the tears on her cheek. "It's okay, it's just... I'm so sorry," she apologized and I figured that it was because she had just broken down but I didn't mind and it was totally understandable that she reacted that way so that was what I told her. "We knew it was going to happen but it's still not easy," Pattie went on and sighed afterward, running her hands through her long hair.
