I walked over to my locker to put all of my stuff in it because I have gym third period.

"Bonjour! Je m'appelle Caleb, et toi?"

"Je m'appelle Maddie," I questioned as I shut my locker door to see who was talking to me. It was Caleb.

"A little birdy told me that you would be here, I'll have to thank him later."

"Are you real?"

He laughed, "Last time I checked. Where are you headed off to?"

"Freaking gym and my teacher is the worst, I hate her."

' "I'll walk you down there, but only if you want me to."

"That'd be great."

We walked together to the girl's locker room. We didn't say anything but we kept turning to silently stare at one another. The two-minute bell rang.

"I guess I have to go to class now," he said breaking the silence.

"I guess so," I said looking down at my shoes.

"Hey," he said pushing my chin up so that I had to look at him. "Make sure that you check your locker after this period."

"But why didn't I see you yesterday?"

"I wasn't here, I had to take care of some business."

"Oh," I said then turned around and walked into the locker room. I spent the rest of that period thinking about him and when the period was over I ran to my locker as fast as I could. When I got there a note was on the outside of my locker asking to meet in the Library at 2 o'clock.

2 pm

I got a restroom pass from my teacher and walked upstairs to the library. I sat down in the first booth then Caleb sat down across from me.

"I see you got my note."

"Why wouldn't I?"

"Janitors."

"So, what did you want to talk about?"

"I just wanted to give us a chance to get a better idea of who we are."

"That's fine with me but, we need to make it a little quick. I have a bathroom pass from choir which is all the way on the other side of the building and she's not going to be very happy if I take longer than six minutes."

"We could start walking back now if you want."

I nodded my head yes then we got up from our seats and started walking towards choir.

"So how many siblings do you have," he asked while trying to stand not too close to me.

"None, sadly. How many do you have?"

"Sadly? I'd kill to be an only child. I have three. Two annoying sisters and one equally annoying brother."

"I'm sure they're not annoying, and Chase is not that annoying."

"If you say so," he laughed.

"How long have you been going to Westport?"

"Since the 7th grade. I live in Plainfield but my dad works here so the whole family goes here."

"Really? What's he teach?"

"AP Lit. You'll meet him soon enough."

"Oh," I said as we arrived in the music hallway of the school.

"We should FaceTime tonight before the game."

"I'd love to but I don't have your number."

"Actually it's my email, FaceTime seems to hate my phone number. Here," he said as he pulled a sharpie out of his front pocket and grabbed my hand. He squiggled (317) 555-8571 onto my right hand.
