"Olivia, why do we have to dress up? It's supposed to be freezing outside," I asked as Olivia and I got ready for the night. It's New Year's Eve and we were planning on going to Downtown Indianapolis to watch the car drop."Just trust me, Maddie! It's not like we won't be wearing coats," she said.
I sighed and finished getting ready. When I was finished we walked out into the living room where the rest of the family was.
"Oo look at you girls! I hope you have fun," Mom said.
"Thanks, mom," I said.
"Our ride is here! We'll be home around 12:30-1," Olivia said before we started to walk out of the house.
"So, who's taking us," I asked.
"You're going to hate me for doing this, but you shouldn't hate her just because you're not with her brother anymore," she said then when got in the car.
"Hey, pretty lady's! I've missed you," Emily said from the driver's seat. There was no one else in the car.
I reached up to the front seat and gave her a hug. "Emily Stevenson! I've missed you so much!"
"Girl, I miss you too! I wish you would still come over but I know Caleb tends to make everything awkward and a pity party about him."I laughed, "I know, he's so annoying. I miss your whole family though. Well, everyone except for him."
"It is New Year's though, you never know what could happen," Olivia said then Emily agreed.
"Don't you dare tell me that the two of you are planning something," I said questioning them.
"Just wait," Emily said then we left the driveway and started making our way downtown.
After making the 16-minute drive downtown, we parked the car then walked to Circle Center to take cool pictures of us by the fountain before seeing the car drop. About halfway through us taking pictures, I heard a voice.
"Hey, Maddie. Can we talk," it asked. I turned around and there he was. Caleb Stevenson.
"Why would I want to talk to you," I asked.
"Because I want you back," he said walking closer to me.
"Well, I don't want you. You hurt me," I said.
"I know, and I'm sorry. I should have stopped talking to her the minute I came back. Shit happened up there and I knew you wouldn't understand," he said now holding my hands.
"You never bothered to try and explain it to me so how would you know?"
"I'm sorry, will you please be my girlfriend again?"
I sighed. I looked behind me and saw Olivia and Emily give me a thumbs up. "Everyone deserves a second chance, right," I asked.
"Right," he said then leaned down to kiss me. I could hear fireworks going off in the background and lots of cheering. It must be midnight.
"Happy New Years, Princess," he said looking into my eyes with his cute brown puppy dog ones.
"Happy New Years handsome man," I said back.
And now, everything felt right again. There was nothing that could come between us or separate us ever again, at least I hoped.
