there was a ringing in his ear and his body felt numb. his head was lighter than a feather, just as his body was. hunger pains shook his body, almost sending him to the ground.
jeongguk bit his lip. he hadn't been on campus for about three weeks now and he didn't want to be there today either but this was his punishment.
tall, brick buildings that had been around since the nineteen hundred's surrounded jeongguk as he tried to find building block C which was where the english literature and art classes were located.
once jeongguk found the building he was faced with another challenge. his class was on the top floor meaning he'd have to walk up eight flights of stairs and not bump into anyone while doing so.
the stairways were filled with students going to or coming back from all different classes. some students had projects to hand in and others were there to start one.
their voices echoed off the exposed brick walls. everyone was pushing and shoving to get to where they needed to go and jeongguk was right in the middle of it.
jeongguk took a deep breath as he gripped onto the railing. he felt bodies pass him as he tried to get back to reality. his head was spinning and all he could hear was the ringing in his ears that just got louder and louder while his heart beat faster and faster.
the brown haired boy was pushed to the left and then to the right by busy students who wanted to get past him. a few vocal people even yelled at him but their words weren't understandable.
everything was oversaturated. the usual dull red and brown bricks were now neon just like everything else in the room. jeongguk no longer knew if he was dreaming or not.
all he wanted to do was sleep.
all he wanted to do was close his eyes and sleep for a while.
taehyung sighed as he started packing up his things for the next class. his hands were covered in bright orange and yellow paint from today's lesson.
by the time he had packed up and finished helping his teacher set out some of the supplies for the next class half of the students were gone from the cramped stairway which was the blonde haired boy's cue to go.
his paint-covered hands gripped onto his white backpack which he had drawn on a few weeks ago for another art project. many students had asked him if he could make one for them so now he was starting up a small business.
a few yells came from further down the staircase. taehyung furrowed his eyebrows together as he went to see what all the noise was about. his checkered vans made soft thuds as they hit the carpet floors.
taehyung turned a corner and saw a few students yelling at a boy as they shoved past him. their words shocked the older boy as he leaned back to let the angry students past.
the boy was gripping onto the metal railing and his eyes were shut tight as if he was scared of opening them. taehyung gazed at the boy for a few seconds, he knew that boy from somewhere...
but before taehyung could remember his name the boy let go of the railing and fell backwards. students nearby stopped in their tracks as they watched the poor boy fall.
with a sudden adrenaline rush, taehyung reached out and wrapped his arms around the boy before he could fall any further. he could hear the boy's heavy, deep breaths and it looked as if he had been crying.
it took a second before the boy opened his eyes. his whole body seemed to shake more as he slipped out of taehyung's grip. everyone's eyes were on them.
"hey you're the boy from the..."
they made brief eye contact before the brown-haired boy dashed up the stairs as if he was a rabbit running away from a fox.
"cafe."
