skipping the part where they work on the assignment, you don't want boring parts, just the ending of it.

fair warning: this is really bad and a few australian terms/food items are in here, if you want to know more just ask and i'll tell you what it is.

they both shut their laptops at the same time. dean slides his books off the table, lifting them to his chest  as he get's out of his seat.

castiel just picks them up, stacking them on top of his laptop, placing his phone and airpods in his jacket pocket.

"cafe or fast-food?" dean asks waiting for him to get out of his chair. castiel was too hungry to wait thirty minutes for cafe food, he knew it was healthier but he wasn't craving it.

'mcdonalds? if that's ok with you?'

dean seemed more of the cafe/diner type, he is a jock after all, fast-food does not really promote healthy type foods.

"yeah, that's fine. it's only like ten minutes away from here."

the other reason castiel wanted mcdonalds is because he knew he'd take too long deciding on what he wanted from a cafe menu, he was a picky eater.

so picky that he hates burgers and refused to eat anything that looked gross on the outside. most nights he went to sleep starving because of this.

he couldn't let dean know this, picky eaters are annoying and boring. it would scare him off and they would literally only be english partners, not friends.

at mcdonalds he knew exactly what he wanted, there would be no fuss.

//
they decided on eating in, well more like dean. castiel would of preferred to go through the drive-thru.

he didn't say anything though.

the line-up wasn't that long. "i don't know what i want cas, help me decide."

castiel rolls his eyes.

'the classic angus is popular'

he knows because he works there, not at this mcdonalds specifically but he finds that everyone typically orders the same thing, no matter what franchise you're at.

they were called up to be served. dean's hovering over castiel. "what are you getting?" when he moves, his hand wraps around castiel's waist lightly.

he removes his hand after a few seconds, that's not normal 'straight' behaviour.

'medium six nugget meal'

they both could hear the whispers coming from behind them.

"are they fucking gay?" — "why the bell is he writing on a piece of paper, is he like mute or something?" — jesus christ, it's disgusting."

dean's getting angry but he contains it. not wanting to scare off cas. they're not that close. he would totally beat the shit out of those people.

castiel's not angry, he's more hurt by the words. he's come to accept that there will always be homophobic people in the world and people who want to make fun of him and there's nothing he can do to change that.

the chances of the people behind them to drop the topic was slim and dean couldn't sit down and listen to it so he told cas that they would go somewhere else and eat it.

castiel wasn't going to disagree with it.

they ate mostly in the car but they had no idea what they wanted to do next so castiel asked to be taken home.

before they left, castiel wrote to dean, saying

'just so you know, i consider you my friend now'

dean looks up at cas and gives his best smile.

"really? i would of thought i'd have to work harder but i am honoured."

//

the ride back to castiel's house was filled with dean's terrible singing but it didn't bother castiel.

"here you go, home sweet home, cas."

castiel nods.

'thanks dean, today was a good day.'

he opens the door of the impala to go straight up to his room to either watch netflix or make legal study notes.

"awe! what! no hug for your 'new' friend? i'm offended castiel. don't i deserve to be happy?"

castiel bites the inside of lip to stop himself for laughing.

still, he leans over the passenger seat and hugs dean, rubbing his hand up and down his back before pulling back.

"goodbye cas." dean gives a slight wave as he watches him go up to the front door and let himself in.

the corners of his mouth slowly curl into a smile as he drives off. "it's frickin progress."

i really am a bad author for not updating regularly and also because i can't write for shit

question: do ya'll want dean & cas together in fan fictions or subtext like the show?
