castiel was texting balthazar for ten minutes while dean just sat across from him, staring and waiting for his friend to pay attention to him..
after castiel turned his phone off and placed his phone in his pocket, dean asks him "who was that?" even though he had a pretty good idea who what was.
'balthazar. he just wanted to know why i wasn't in school'
dean nods but he was confused. he thinks cas is forgiving balthazar too fast, for someone that supposedly broke him.
"ok. are you ever going to tell me what he did to you that was so bad?"
castiel shook his head and looked down at the table frowning.
dean grabbed a hold of cas' hand and squeezed it. "hey. you don't have to tell me but you can trust me. anything you tell me is safe with me."
castiel pulls his hand out from under dean's.
'i'll tell you... eventually. i'm not ready and i've never not trusted you. i'm just scared that you'll think it's petty or something.'
the piece of paper in dean's hands made him feel disappointed in cas. he understands only to a small extent but he wants him to open up.
he's dying to know why he doesn't speak and what balthazar did to damage him to such extreme measures. he wants to make him feel better or at least make him feel good about himself for just one day.
"i doubt it's petty. it's more than balthazar but i'm not going to pressure you anymore. tell me when you're ready. i don't care if that's a text message at three in the morning or a hand-written note given to me at school. i want to be able to understand you better, be a better friend."
castiel had no idea what to say/write to that so he simply nodded and smiled.
"come on, let's go get food. i'm starving."
he grabs cas by the hand again and together they run off to the nearest cafe.
