YOUR POV
You couldn't go anywhere without seeing it. The pure black cards, screaming the symbolism of its evilness that everyone was blind to. The pocket-sized rule book with its vile printed text leading teens to their death. The crazed eyes of kids whose worlds have been infested by it. Gryphons and Gargoyles. By the end of the first week of school everyone was either playing it or begging their friends not to play it. Two kids were huddled over a game board on the sidewalk of the parking lot, causing me to go out of my way to get around them. Once I was seated in Betty's car, I took one last look at the pair of brain-dead game players. Betty started the car and began driving away, I didn't stop looking. The boy of the group, who was dressed in all black, lifts his head up and stars right at me; his eye color almost black and his stare was enough to make me shudder.
"Do you mind if we stop at Pop's before going home?" Betty asks and turns her head to me.
"Uh, yeah, that's fine," I respond, still shaken from the boy's stare.
"Where did this game even come from?" I ignore the question.
She breathes in deeply, "I have no idea".

Betty and I are seated in a booth and I'm left wondering what we are doing here.
"Hey, sorry for the wait!" Veronica says and sits down across from us.
"So, how far along is the speakeasy?" Betty cuts straight to the chase. I had completely forgotten about the speakeasy. I thought V had abandoned the idea.
"About that, the speakeasy has been ready for a while now," She explains.
"What? Why haven't you opened it?" Betty asks in an excited tone.
"I'm waiting for Archie, I wanted my first dance to be with him," She elaborates, sounding guilty.
"That is exactly what Archie wouldn't want! Do you think he wants you waiting for him, putting your life on hold? V, you have something awesome here, people will love it. Don't wait till your opportunity is over!" Betty exclaims and places her hand on top of V's.
"I agree, it will make Arch happy knowing you are doing something that makes you happy!" I chip in, putting my hand on top of theirs.
Veronica keeps her eyes down for a moment before looking up at us and smiling. She thanks us and informs us that she will hold a meeting for it tonight.
"You girls are seriously the best friends I've ever had," She says as we pull apart from a group hug.
Betty and I walk out of the diner with our arms linked together. I turn my head and see kids by the bike rack. An unmistakable black card is held in the hand of a girl wearing a dirtied navy-blue cape. They are crowded together like animals during the winter. The girl tilts her head slowly and connects eye contact with me. Her eyes look the same, but this time I can't see past her eyes. There is nothing behind her dead stare, nothing at all. She doesn't look away the whole time Betty backs out of the parking lot, and neither do I.

I bite at the pad of my thumb, the stares of the game players burning in my mind. I see their dark, soulless eyes every time I close my eyes. How did this happen? And again, my mind flickers back to the million-dollar question: Where did it come from?
"(Y/n)!" Cheryl snaps at me. I turn my head to the redhead sitting in front of me, Toni seated beside her.
"What has gotten into you recently, it's like you're in your own world 24/7!" She continues.
"I at least hope the world in your head is not as chaotic as this one," Toni jokes, "and I hope I'm in it,", she shoots me a wink.
I blush down to my toes.
"Just the lady I was looking for!" Veronica squeals entering the room, the three of us turn our heads to her.
"President Blossom, will you please hand these out and spread a good word about La Bone Nuit?" She questions with her hands full with card stock.
"Nice cards, valet parking! What's in it for me?" Cheryl asks, examining one of the cards.
"Free drinks all night!" Veronica tries to say confidently, but she sounds like she's begging.
"Okay, M-,"
"Great! Can you please get Sweetpea and Fangs to be there!" She cuts off Cheryl.
Sweetpea? I haven't thought about him since that weird incident at the party. Cheryl accepts and Veronica smiles like she's won the lottery.
"V," I grab her arm as she's walking out, "I'm glad you went through with this, it's going to be legendary!" I smile sincerely at her. She winks, smiles, and then struts away.

"Just...one...and done!" Betty smiles brightly as she wipes the last coat of bright pink lip gloss across my lips.
I turn to the mirror and look closely at myself. She let me have one of Polly's old homecoming dress for tonight's opening at La Bone Nuit. It's long, gold, and clings to my body like a wet blanket. Betty has taken charge of making sure my hair looked perfect, spraying in place with multiple coats of hair spray. To top it all off, Betty gave me a subtle, shiny makeup look.
I feel a little vainglorious for looking at myself this long, but I feel so good.
"Thanks, B. I love it!" I say, trying so hard not to squeal. She smiles, the color of her hair shines as bright as her silver dress. We interlock hands and head to her car.
Anyone over the age of thirty would think it was a jumping night at Pop's with the number of cars and bodies filling the area. But, underneath it's 50's façade, drinks were being poured and teens were losing themselves in the sway of upbeat jazz music. Every teen that had any popularity was at Veronica's grand opening night. Fangs, dressed in a bodyguard chic suit, opened Betty's door and Sweetpea opened mine. Our eyes met as I was half out of the car. His were dark, as always, but they changed when he met my stare. I could never figure him out. I drop my gaze quickly and step outside the car; making sure not to get Betty's silver pumps she gave me submerged in the puddle below me.
"After you," He moves to the side and extends his arm for me to walk by. I nodded and searched for Betty as fast as possible.
She was already embracing V, I smile and waltz over to them.
"This looks extraordinary!" I exclaim and join the group hug. She laughs and it sounds like Christmas bells.
"There are my favorite Serpents!" Veronica breaks from the hug and walks past us.
I turn my head to watch her and see Cheryl and Toni dressed lavishly, poised with complete confidence. Toni looks drop dead gorgeous, I must have been staring because I hear Betty try to cover a giggle.
"What?" I question.
"Go talk to her," She smiles brightly.
"W-who? Talk to who? What are you talking about?" My face turns into the shade of Cheryl's hair.
"Whatever," She laughs and grabs my hand, bringing me inside.
