No one saw the father's of their children anymore, so when word got out that Ben had come to visit me at my check-up, the other Breeders started to look at me funny, but it came to a head when a harpy leaned down to whisper to me one morning at breakfast, "Commander Ren made an appointment to meet with you in three days."

"I'll make room in my busy schedule," I said, taking another bite of boiled eggs.

"Oh, an appointment?" Lynx drawled, rolling her eyes. "Is that what they call whoring yourself out now?"

"The commander wants to meet with me, are you suggesting I turn him down?"

She stood up, eyes wide, chest rising and falling with each angry breath. "You didn't even want to be here, you swamp-rat! Why do you get to have the fairytale marriage with that- that sith lord!"

"Enough, Lynx." Grandmother Bee put a hand on the woman's shoulder. "Another word and we'll have to put you back in the box."

"Go ahead, throw me in! My planet is gone, my people are dead, and General Hux hasn't seen my face in weeks, hasn't asked about his son. Nothing can hurt me anymore."

Harpies hauled her up from the table, and she didn't fight, tears streaming down her cheeks. But she didn't scream or kick or make any threats, simply walking to her fate. Everyone at the table watched her with rapt attention. Some of the older woman looked confused, touching their bellies nervously; they'd made it this long by respecting the First Order's rules, and now it seemed the rigid structure they'd come to expect had fallen to ruin. But a couple of girls had rage in their eyes, fists clenched, ready for a fight.

"Who would've thought, after everything, I would like her better than all of y'all," Anika said, laughing.
