Extinguished (a post mockingjay story)

The tree

***four months later***

They let me leave the hospital about a little over a month ago and the let me off of suicide watch the month before that they gave me some antidepressants that I don't take I just refill them every time it says to. I eat enough so it looks like I'm trying to live I don't bother to cut anymore well I tried when I got home but it just didn't feel the same anymore. It just hurt not that I don't deserve to hurt it's just that it made me feel more pathetic than I already do. So now as I sit in front of my fire because it is now early December so snow is beginning to fall making it freezing.

To day is just one of the day that I just feel like a waste of space so I reach over to the draw and pull out the bottle of spirits that I stole from haymich and take a long drink.At first I still feel horrible and then I can't stop laughing at the fact that I've lost everything and everyone I love but then I actually feel like singing. The first song I can think of is the hanging tree so that's what I sing

"Are you? Are you?
Coming to the tree
Where they strung up a man they say who murderd three.
Strange things did happen here
No stranger wouldn't be
If we met up at midnight in the hanging tree"

After I finish this verse I get up and walk to the basement and get a five foot length of rope. I walk back and sit in front of the fire and start singing the next verse as my fingers go at the length of rope

"Are you? Are you?
Coming to the tree
Where dead man called out for his love to flee.
Strange things did happen here
No stranger would it be
If met up at midnight in the hanging tree."

When I look down i see that my fingers have fashioned a noose. I remember that I was playing to OD on the antidepressants after I got my prescription filled for this month but now I don't have to wait. So I stand up grab a piece of paper and a pen and write a note to Peeta

After I finish writing the note I stuff it in my pocket along with the bottle of liquor and my noose . Then I put my shoes and coat of put the  and start walking toward the woods after I reach the fence I know that it's safe to finish my song

"Are you? Are you?
Coming to the tree"
Where I told you to run, so we'd both be free
Strange things did happen here
No stranger would it be
If we met up at midnight in the hanging tree"

After I finish that verse I get the strange feeling something or someone is following me so I keep walking and then turn around. Nothings there so It doesn't matter. I keep walking wanting to reach my destination and finish my song so I continue.

A few moments after I finish my song I reach the tree that my dad used to tech my to climb. It's tall and also has branches close enough to the ground to get the job done. I take the rope out of my pocket and throw it over the branch when I'm done i take another long swig from my bottle. Everything is really fuzzy and now it's snowing so I try to speed up my preparation. I take a rock and pull it under the tree and then stand on it then I put my head through the noose. Just as I'm about to step off the rock I'm tackled from behind and the I hit the ground with a thump. "What are you doing? Are u insane" says a familiar voice then I realize that it's Peeta and he is laying on top of me and holding my hands down. "Just let me go Peeta" I say I'm sure my words are A little slurred from the alcohol. What the hell is Peeta doing. Why is he always there to stop me. Why can't he just let me die and that's when I remember that Peeta has wanted me to die well not my Peeta but the capital's Peeta has "IM A MUTT" I scream at him he shuts his eyes tightly and his breathing hitches "Katniss don't do that" he say trying to keep control " I'm a damn mutt Peeta I tried to kill u once and I killed you family and friends and my next move is to kill you" " KATNISS STOP" He screams "Peeta just let go and kill me strangle me make me suffer after all I am a mutt a filthy mutt a capital creation" he starts shaking his head and his mussels tighten and then everything goes black

****Peeta's POV****

"Peeta just let go and kill me strangle me make me suffer after all I am a mutt a filthy mutt a capital creation" Katniss says most of her words are slurred. Kill her Peeta,the mutt is giving you a free shot. Just as she's about to say something else I punch her and she goes unconscious. I get off of her and then sit down by her body. After I sit down I notice a white piece of paper sticking out of her pocket. So I crawl over to her and take it out of her pocket the note reads

Dear,  Peeta
I'm sorry I know that you will the only one who I hurt with my hasty decision to end it all but I just have to tell you something the one reason I sent u away in the hospital was so that when I would try to kill my self again you and haymich would not have to watch and I want you to know something I always think about you and I always did love you it just took me a while to let myself realize it I love yo u two will all my heart

I was right Katniss isn't going to stop until she is dead but I'm not going to let her die I'm going to change her mind even if I have to die trying. Even if I like it or not I love that girl. So I place the note back in her pocket scoop her up and walk back to my house.
