I woke up with the intention to skip school, again. I haven't seen or spoken to anyone I knew before I moved, and I was kind of worried of what people might say. Before I left, I was friends with Nancy and Barb, and we were quiet girls. We wore knit sweaters, studied together everyday, and would never do anything that would anger our parents. That included breaking the rules.
But all that ended for me when we finished seventh grade. I met my friend Carol, and her boyfriend Tommy. We hung out everyday that summer before school started back up again, and it was through them that I met my first serious boyfriend.
He was the first boy that actually took interest it what I liked and cared about. He was there for me when I found out I was going to move, and he was there when I left. He gave me a tight hug and said that when I come back, we'll pick up where we left off. But I was scared now.
What if he forgot that promise? What if he forgot me? Would he even want to pick up where we left off? Would he even want to know me, or talk to me? All these thoughts ran through my head while I was sitting at the kitchen table.
Jonathan was making eggs for the four of us, and Will was in the bathroom. Joyce had just got dressed for work when she came running into the kitchen.
"Jonathan?"
"Yeah?" He turned to her, after putting eggs on a plate for me.
"Where's Will?" She asked. She seemed worried, but why? Wasn't he still in the bathroom? Where else would he go this early in the morning?
"What?" He asked her, sounding a bit worried himself. Is this because he went missing last year? Who's to say he'll go missing again?
"Where's Will?" She asked again.
"He's not in his room?" He asked her, motioning with the spatula, and nearly dropping some of my eggs.
"Hey, watch it." I muttered under my breath.
"No." We hear a noise from the bathroom, and Joyce runs over to see what it was.
"Will?" She asks, barging through the door. "What're you doing?"
"Peeing..." I heard him answer. Chuckling to myself, I start to eat my eggs and toast as Joyce comes back from the hallway.
"He's okay...he's okay...." She mutters to herself. I get that last years events were difficult, but Will's back now. What happened was an accident, and it won't happen again. Joyce and Jonathan, mostly Joyce, just need to calm down. He's fine, and will be fine. Nothing is going to happen again.
Will comes out, and Joyce helps him get dressed for Halloween in his room. I was standing in the doorway, admiring his costume. When they were almost done, Joyce ran over to get some tape from Wills desk; a piece of his costume came loose. She did an excellent job, and should be really proud of herself.
"Looking good bud! You're the best Ghostbuster I've seen since Murray and Akroyd." I cross my arms, smiling at my younger cousin.
"Thanks Angie, isn't it great? Mom really went all out this year."
"Sure is dude. Did you thank her?"
"Like a million times." He laughs.
Joyce turns around, and holds up a drawing Will drew.
"What's this?" She asks him. It looked like an omnious shadow monster. Whatever it was, it gave me goosebumps.
"Oh, nothing." He looks at her, begging with his eyes for her to not ask anymore questions. She of course asks anyway.
