Graduation party.

Seriously? In July? School ended in June. Why should I have to get in a car for two hours to go to a lame graduation party, for my third cousin? It's ridiculous.

As you can tell, I hate parties. They're boring, I don't really know anybody, there's annoying middle-aged women and dads, what sane 23 year old would want to be there?

At least I had Jake. Thank god.

He would be by my side, keeping me company, since he wouldn't know anybody either. Only here's the catch:

My cousin is obsessed with his band.

She's seen them twice, has multiple shirts, you name it. That's why I haven't told her. And that's why I'm so nervous about going.

"Why do they have to live so far away?" I groan, sitting in the passenger seat while Jake drove.

"I told you you didn't have to go, y/n," he chuckled.

"I know...but my mom said I should go, and my great-grandfather wants to see me so I kind of have no choice." I slump back in my seat and look out the window, passing trees on the highway.

"At least you have me," he smiled, nudging my arm.

"Yeah but...my cousin..." he looked confused at what I was saying. "Remember? Emily? Crazy Greta fan? Will probably be not so good that you'll be there."

"Well then I could turn around right now and you could go without me," he joked. No way I could go without him. But no way I could go with him.

We finally arrive, and there are cars lined up down the street, with blue and white balloons on the mailbox in front of the million-dollar house.

I walk in...nobody inside. I then discover they have a pool, and it's a pool party.

Amazing.

Splashing, yelling, pushing, the worst kind of parties. I groan and slowly walk outside, following Jake, grasping his hand.

We walk out, and there are a lot of people. I look around for Emily, and don't see her. Yet.

I spot my mom and siblings, talking to my great-grandfather. We walk over, and almost trip on some people's feet in the process.

"Y/n! So glad you came!" My mom exclaimed, hugging me. "And Jake, always glad to see you too!" She hugged him after. She loves him, luckily.

I walk over to my grandfather, saying hi, how I'm doing, how he's doing. The usual small talk.

"I'm going to look for food and drinks," I say to Jake. He nods, continuing to talk to my mother.

I walk over to the table, to see some chips, dips, and water. I look around and finally find some alcohol. I'm gonna need that.

I'm digging through a cooler, when I feel a tap on my shoulder. "Hi y/n!"

It's Emily.

"Oh, hi Em. How are you?" I politely ask, grabbing two cans of beer.

"I'm...uh actually amazing. Wanna know why?" She squeals, and before I even get to say anything back, she goes, "one of the members of Greta Van Fleet is here, right now, and he's talking to your mom!!!"
