I had never seen Lupin change before and it made me sad to see him in so much pain. "Sirius get the kids out of here, I’ll handle this!" I yelled over Lupin's cries.

"No we do this together." I was going to tell him to just go but I understood that he was concerned for Lupin too so I nodded. "Lupin come back to us, this is not you. This is not the brave man I know." I tried to reason with him but he was already too far along in his transformation to be listening to my words. He hadn’t taken his potion.

He screamed hoarsely as his claws grew and his hind legs stretched into longer more lethal looking pawed limbs. Sirius immediately looked like he had an idea. "Bite him!" He shouted and I followed his instruction without question. I sunk my fangs into his neck and sucked a few long drags of his blood, he clawed me off and I went flying into the tree. I spat out the foul tasting blood. "It didn't work!" I yelled as I pounced to my feet.

"I can see that," he responded and turned with a blur into the giant dog. He ran and leapt at Remus who was turning on Harry and Hermione. He was thrown off but luckily landed on his feet, I tried to stun him but it had absolutely no effect, instead he just ran towards me. I ran away rather than standing my ground and fighting against him, drawing him away from the kids. Sirius appeared next to me and we ran together moving him further away. Sirius nipped behind him and bit his heels; he stopped and slashed his claws narrowly missing the dogs’ face. While he was distracted I leapt onto his back and clawed down his sides, I was quickly thrown off and he howled at the fresh blood streaming down his back. He ran up to me and swiped for my face, I managed to roll but he caught my arm and left four deep cuts, I cried out as I made to swipe again but a jet black blur bit him in the neck and dragged him away, Lupin growled and rolled over onto Sirius, making him yelp. "Sirius!" I yelled just as the werewolf grabbed him by the throat. There was a howl in the distance and the two of us faltered, as Remus turned back to the limp dog another howl sounded from the distant forest. Lupin replied with an ear-splitting howl and threw Sirius' body away, trotting off into the forest below.

I tried to stand but I felt paralysed, my hair was still a bright red in the moonlight. My breathing had slowed and a red tinge clouded my eyes, but I felt no thirst taking over just an itching in my hands as my claws grew and as my limbs lengthened, I wanted to scream but no sound would come out of my mouth. When I could finally stand all I could see was Harry running after a stumbling figure, they were heading towards the black lake. "Harry, Sirius; don't!" I could see a cloud of dementors roll over and I ran to try and catch up to them. I was too late. I leapt over the beach and raised my wand into the air, "Expecto Patronum!" I screamed at the sky, the dementors looked around and turned on me. They could see me- or rather knew someone was there. My giant snake patronus slithered through the sky but I couldn't hold it, Sirius had stopped breathing and I knew that if something didn't happen I wouldn't be able to hold them off. A dementor flew over me and I could feel the coldness reaching out, all the happiness rushed out of me and even as I fell to the ground, my patronus blurred out of existence. I crawled slowly over to where Sirius and now also Harry- lay unconscious, the last thing I saw as I kissed Sirius for what I thought would be the final time was a glowing white stag shining on the other side of the lake; I fell to the ground Sirius's hand in mine as the dementors retreated away. Then all that was there turned to blackness.
