Chapter 10: The Chase

Hilbert set foot on a stone bridge, he walked across it and set foot on the soft ground on the other side.

Leo and Swift danced around him in a beautiful way and jumped on the fountain that was set in the center of the land surrounded by water. The fountain had a weirdly shaped object in the middle, which spouted out the water.

Hilbert walked passed it. He saw an old man standing next to a beautiful wooden archway that was overgrown with vines. Behind the archway you could see the beginning of a small forest.

"Hey kid!" the old man said smiling as Hilbert walked up to him.

"Hello" Hilbert replies shyly but with a smile.

"You going to route 3?" the man asked him, Hilbert nodded in return: "yeah".

"Good luck and be careful" the man said to him, his wrinkled face lit up when saying the words.

"Will be, thank you" Hilbert replied.

He walked past the man and under the archway onto the new route. Ahead of him, at the end of the path surrounded by trees was a small daycare where children were playing outside. The children reminded Hilbert of Rosa and Nate and Hilbert quickly looked at the ground below him.

Swift and Leo felt his sudden mood change and stopped playing with each other. Hilbert kept on walking, the silent breeze was gently playing with his hair and the smell of pine was thick in the air. The gravel under him scrunched with every movement.

Swift suddenly stumbled over something and fell face first into the gravel. A loud shriek could be heard throughout the path that sent some bird Pokémon flying. Next to Hilbert Leo let out a squeak that sounded like he was laughing, a vine shot back in his hood. Hilbert couldn't help but let out a small chuckle as well.

Swift lifted her head up and a few pieces of gravel fell from her face which was filled with anger. She shrieked again and lashed out at Leo who dodged with ease. Hilbert caught her in mid air and gently stroked her in her arms, the anger was soon replaced with purrs.

"Leo don't do that" Hilbert laughed, Leo just nodded with a grin on his face and walked on.

The silence was peaceful until it was disrupted by another pair of shoes on the gravel moving with great speed.

"Hilbert, stop!" he heard a males voice yell.

Hilbert turned around to see Cheren running towards him with a grin on his face. The raven haired boy came to a stop in front of him.

"I believe that we both have a trio badge, so let's see which one of us is stronger!" the boy said.

"Challenge accepted" Hilbert responded.

Leo was quick to jump on the battlefield and Cheren released his starter, Henry.

The Oshawatt let out a squeak upon being send out. Leo replied with his own cry and both stared each other down.

"Leo use tackle!" Hilbert said, "dodge and use focus energy!" Cheren commanded.

Leo lunged forwards with his tail coated in a dull white. Henry, however, easily dodged the attacks and then began to focus. He shone a bright white for a second and opened his eyes again. He looked more powerful and focussed than before and he lunged at Leo. He tackled the grass snake Pokémon and Leo let out a cry of pain.

Hilbert gritted his teeth, "Leo use vine whip!" Hilbert quickly said. "Dodge and use water gun!" Cheren yelled.

Vines shot out of Leo's hood and wrapped themselves around the Oshawatt with great speed. Henry was shocked and forgot to attack which opened a spot for Leo to slam the Pokémon against the ground. The water type let out a cry due to the super effective attack.
