I desperately wanted to fly to the High Lord House, but I figured it would be easier to winnow while I was wearing this dress. Mom was holding my right hand and Bex was holding my left. Every time we winnowed we always did it together, it was less time consuming and I would always get lost. The cold, home-like darkness swallowed us up and we were on the humongous front porch of the High Lord House.
No one else had arrived yet, so Bex, Dad and I sat at the table and played cards. We played a game called Knights Honor. It was so damn hard, Dad always beat Bex and I. Mom was the only one who could beat him. Cassian has said she threatens him, he winked at me when he said it too and now every time I think of it I shiver. I placed down a seven star and dad played a ten knight. I slammed my cards down on the table. "Damnit! You always have a ten Knight!" Bex cackled and gathered up all the cards.
Tamlin, Mavis and Titus were the first to arrive. "Afternoon Rhysand, Feyre, Bex.." he took a slight pause every time he spoke to me. "Nova, it's nice to be back." Bex had went over to Titus and them two walked away cracking up like boys. The next to arrive was Arlo and Eris. "Afternoon, Nightlings."Eris had said to us. Arlo had came over and kissed me on the hand, he was charming, but he could such an ass. "Would you like to go on a small walk in your court?" I never turned down something like this, "Of Course, there is so much you can see." My Arm looped through his, the way any others would and we went out on the front porch.
Helion and Sonny had just arrived, "My Parents are inside, Arlo and I are just going out. Sonny would you like to go?" He smiled, considering my offer, "No thank you, I'd like to catch up with Bex. He has some things he needs to tell me." I laughed, alright. What ever suits him. "Ok, we won't be gone very long." Arlo pulled me along, walking with me, while Sonny and Helion walked inside. "You look extravagant in that dress, a fine lady you are." I looked down at the rose colored, long sleeve dress and said, "Oh, Thank You. It's one of the first times I've worn one."
"Wow, I didn't know that you didn't wear dresses."
"You didn't? The last time I was here, all I wore was Tunics and Doeskin trousers."
"I know, I thought it was just an Illyrian training thing."
"Well, it's not. I just prefer pants."
I was walking down to the farmers market in town. He might like it there. It was full of jams and jellies, wood crafts, jewelry and local news. Small talk kept the walk friendly and I got to know a lot about his court. His father, Eris, seemed to be possessive about how he lived his life. Always looking for suitors for him, treating him like a child. I could relate to that in my own way. Mom didn't trust me for the longest time.
"It's lively here, so full of people, children running and playing. Father had told me it was a murder house and full of dark spirits lurking the streets, harming the innocent. I doubted him and I'm glad I did."
"He wasn't partially wrong. He did tell some truth I'm sure. When I was a little girl, around 35, Dad had told me I had to be trained for everything. I've killed criminals of this court. Performed in blood riots. I'm one of the top assassins of the court. There's never a time that you will know what I'm about to do." We walked down an empty ally way to get to the next section of booths.
"Oh Yeah? What do you mean by that?" Within the blink of eye, I had him pinned against the ally wall and a dagger that I kept strapped around my leg at his neck.
"That's what I meant. You'll never know what I'll do next." I think I had scared him because his skin had became more pale than it already was. I put my dagger back away and we continued walking, he pulled me to a stop around one booth. A group of people came walking toward us. Sonny, Bex, Titus and Anakin. I hadn't really heard much from Anakin. "Hey Guys, having fun and getting much flirting done?" Oh My Cauldron. This is one of the moments when Bex was an Ass.
