the air seems to grow cold as rey wanders helplessly down the street, her arms crossed tightly around her chest as if they could somehow hide her away, away from the humiliation and hurt that's filling her shivering body. her big eyes keep their gaze fixed on her aching feet, once in a while she has to wipe away her salty tears that blur her vision, the only time she looks up is to check where she's going so she can make it home. It's a life saver that rey has an excellent memory and can recognise all the turns that ethan made and all she has to do is reverse them and travel back to the comfort of her house.
ethan.
every thought of him that beats it's way into rey's mind slashes another cut into her heart. what a sick and cruel person he must be, to trick her and ask her out on a date because of some stupid game, to lie to her and make her believe he liked her when all he wanted was to make fun of her appearance and earn some money of it. rey has never felt so embarrassed in her whole life, tonight has been more humiliating than when she wet herself on stage in second grade and tripped up falling flat on her face when she tried to escape the shocked faces of the crowd and the shrill laughter of the kids. those little kids pointing their chubby fingers and laughing grew up to be the ones who would stick those notes with harsh insults on rey's back and trip her up in the cafeteria making her fall in her lunch nearly every day of high school. rey's lip quivers as the vicious memories of her life at school collide with the events of tonight, like powerful waves crashing against the sharp jagged rocks on a stormy night, the depressing by product spiking her eyes with even more bitter tears that she lets roll down her cheeks because there's no point in wiping them away if they just keep coming. rey is freed from her taunting mind when she notices that she's less than twenty blocks away from her home, her body is crying out to be submerged in the thick sheets of her bed, locked away from the outside world where these disgusting people roam and feel protected from their vile twisted games. the thought causes rey to pick up the pace, her feet covering an increasing distance with every step she takes until eventually she's running. her soles pounding against the hard concrete in sync with the pounding of her heart, rey's breaths become chopped as her chest tightens, her dress seems to be tightening around her tired legs like rope which makes running difficult but rey doesn't care. not even when her dress gets caught on someone's picket fence, rey stops suddenly and just tears the material from the wood, a rather large rip separating two pieces of the fabric and exposing her meaty upper leg. rey looks down at the sight and stifles a pathetic sob, she looks ahead and continues running down the street, hand over her mouth to keep the sobs at bay.
she's practically gasping for breath when she makes it to her house, rushing up to the front door and banging her fist against it, she hates the fact that her mother has to see her like this but rey has no choice, she just wants to be locked inside the safety of her home. after what seems like hours, her mother finally opens the door, her eyes go wide at the sight of rey and her mouth opens to ask questions but rey runs past her and stumbles up the stairs to her room. "rey! rey my darling, what's wrong?" her mother's voice tries to reach her but rey blocks it out by slamming her bedroom door. she leans her back against it and takes in a deep breath. the back of her hand wipes away at her running nose and she walks up to her mirror, leaning down with her palms flat against her desk rey takes a long hard look at the reflection staring back at her.
her lip trembles at what she sees, her eyes are red and puffy from the crying, her face seems bloated and her skin looks dry from the wind. her hair has exploded into a bombshell of untamed curls that stick out at horrible angles. rey's eyes swarm with even more tears and the sobs she's held back suddenly break through and leave her mouth in low ugly breaths. she cannot stomach the sight of her own face, no wonder all the kids at school made fun of her, she's nothing but some hideous freak who was made just for the popular beautiful kids to entertain themselves with. kids like that stupid ethan dolan.
