first date.

"you're not serious are you?" jacob is in disbelief from what rey has just told him, that tonight she's going on a date with ethan dolan, the same guy who pretended to ask her out to a party which was actually a contest for his friends to see who could find the ugliest girl. "look...I know its stupid but I think ethan is really sorry about what happened and whats to make it up" rey argues sighing "its just a few dates that's all". "yeah but how'd you know these 'dates' aren't just more of his little messed up games?" jacob puts forward and rey bites her lip, the idea isn't incredibly far fetched considering ethan's past behaviour but surely someone can't be that cruel?

"what if they're not?" rey retorts and hears jacob let out an irritated sigh on the other end of the phone. "rey...." he starts to say. "listen jacob, I know you're only looking out for me and I really do appreciate it but I believe in second chances" rey explains to her friend "I want to give ethan a second chance because....because..." she struggles to articulate why she's doing this but jacob does it for her, because he's her best friend and knows her too well. "because you've had a crush on him since the first hour of high school" he says, making rey get embarrassed even though she's alone in her room. "well...ethan's....you know...he's cute...." rey feels stupid saying it out loud but its the truth. damn her misleading and unhelpful teen hormones. "he's also a huge douche" jacob scoffs still unconvinced "but then again attractive people can get away with being douches". "jacob....if he acts like a douche on this date then I'll never ever speak to him again....I promise" rey says honestly as she understands what jacob is saying and where he's coming from. "just be careful rey...I don't want you to get hurt" jacob sighs and rey smiles softly at his words, no matter what happens with ethan she knows she always has her best friend and that can make anything better.

"I know jacob" rey tells him "look I gotta go, ethan's gonna be here soon to pick me up". "where's he even taking you?" jacob asks, "I actually have no idea....probably somewhere to eat..." rey replies playing with her hair. "maybe netflix and chill?" jacob teases chuckling and rey pretends to gag, "no way, I hope he knows I'm not okay with that.at.all" she says firmly. yeah, he better" jacob puts on a fake tough older brother act, making rey giggle, "okay I'm gonna go now j so I'll talk to you later". "okay rey, have a nice time and make sure he treats you right" jacob says one last time and rey smiles before ending the call and sighing.

meanwhile, ethan has just pulled up outside her house, he spends a few seconds looking at himself in the rear view mirror before stepping out. "okay and so it begins" he says to himself and walks towards rey's door. giving it three knocks, he pulls up his jacket collar and licks his lips, rey opens the door and stands there a few seconds. ethan looks at her, taking in her appearance; she hasn't gotten all dolled up like last saturday, instead of a fancy dress she's wearing light blue jeans, a light brown t shirt with the words 'led zeppelin' printed across them and a black cardigan, her hair has somehow managed to be tamed into two thick braids and her glasses frame her dark chocolate eyes. "hey rey" ethan smiles at her "you look....cute". rey gives a small smile and quickly looks down and her feet and then back to ethan, suddenly feeling awkward and unsure of what to do or say. "thanks" she mumbles and bites her lip, her eyes gently graze over her date, who looks effortlessly stylish and cool in a leather jacket, dark ripped jeans fitting tightly around his muscular legs and a green blue t shirt. his hair flows around his face and head in baby soft curls and his lips look peachy. rey mentally sighs and how attractive he is, especially those eyes, so intriguing and irresistible to stare into.

"ready for one of the best nights of your life?" ethan asks her smiling and eyes twinkling, "oh sure....if that's what you're promising" rey replies, "of course doll, I promise nothing less" ethan chuckles running a hand through his hair, rey can't help but wonder if his gestures are natural or calculated to suit his image. she smiles at him and steps outside to join him, closing the front door behind her, "don't I get to speak to mother banks tonight?" ethan asks holding out his hand for rey to take. "she's at night school" rey tells him then notices his open palm, she bites her lip before slowly wrapping her own hand around it. she feels a small warmth suddenly ignite in her body by how soft and smooth ethan's hand is, her heart starts to race as ethan brings their hands down and squeezes hers. "okay....you still need to be back by 11?" ethan asks, starting to walk towards his car and leading rey with him. "ummm" rey mumbles feeling that old embarrassment again, she quickly assumes that ethan finds it ridiclious she has to be home by that time but she pushes the thought away so she can answer "maybe midnight...".
