When Billy got home from his shift at the Hawkins pool he went straight into his bedroom. He began rifling through all his dresser drawers, getting frustrated. Finally, under one of his Penthouse magazines he found the tiny velvet box. He opened it, revealing a gold ring with a small ruby in the centre. He knew it wasnt much but Diana wouldnt care. He was able to scoop it up at a pawn shop in Santa Cruz, the guy behind the counter promising it was real gold.
Billy was going to ask Diana to marry him.
He knew she would never see it coming so he had to create the Motel 6 front to even think about pulling it off. He also knew Hopper was going to kill him for it, but he didnt care. He wanted to spend the rest of his life with her and he didnt care about the consequences. He waited until she was eighteen so they wouldnt need anyones permission.
He tucked the small box into the pocket of his leather jacket, along with the lined paper he had been writing down some ideas on how to pop the question, and grabbed his keys.
The sun had set and the cool night air kissed his face as he climbed into the Camaro.
His Ted Nugent cassette tape blared from the radio as he headed to the outskirts of town. He practiced his speech in the rearview mirror as he sped through the darkness.
"I love you...marry me? No. Its meant to be...No... Youre a great lay, marry me?" He chuckled to himself and began to fix his hair in the mirror.
All of a sudden a large animal smashed the windshield of the Camaro, causing Billy to jerk the wheel and lose control. The Camaro spun out, kicking up dust along the road until it smashed into a pole coming to an abrupt halt.
Billy slumped in the drivers seat, ears ringing from the impact of his head slamming against the door. He looked into the rearview, noticing blood pouring out of a gash on his forehead.
"Fuck.." He grumbled as he opened the car door and rolled out onto the hard cement. He got himself on his feet and walked around to the passengers side door, which had been caved in from the impact.
"Stupid piece of shit!" He yelled as he kicked the back bumper.
He noticed the windshield was smashed and ran a hand through his long blonde hair. He touched the crack and drew back his hand, which was covered in a slimy substance.
"Fuck!" He yelled as loud as he could, wondering if anyone was even around to hear him.
He heard a loud rustling in the bushes and quickly turned towards it, a chill running up his spin.
Billy looked up at the building beside him, looking ominous. Brimborn Steel Works. Great, he thought to himself.
He heard a noise coming from inside the mill, so he began to walk toward it. He looked down into the darkness, empty stairs loomed ahead. He turned to walk back toward the Camaro when his feet were pulled out from under him by an invisible force. He let out a wail.
He struggled to grab hold of the stairway as the force pulled him down into the darkness.
"HELP!!" He screamed as loud as he could. The force continued to pull him down further into darkness. It slammed him down the metal stairs of the old mill, tossing him like a ragdoll onto the floor down below.
He struggled to catch his breathe as his eyes slowly began to adjust to the darkness. He panted in fear as he heard a loud growling sound coming towards him. He tried to get to his feet just as a long tentacle arm flew out of the darkness, covering his face. He felt a piercing hot bile shoot down his throat as the tentacle pumped. He couldnt move, he couldnt scream. He almost blacked out when the arm finally released him.
He sprang to his feet, struggling up the stairs as fast as he could. He sprinted to the Camaro and started it up, flooring it out of the lot. He pulled over only when he saw a pay phone on the side of the road. He panted as he dialed 911, hands shaking uncontrollably.
"911 what is your emergency?"
He looked outside the booth to total darkness. The streetlights were all out. He dropped the receiver and ran out of the phone booth.
In the distance he saw figures marching towards him. Closer, and closer they got, the hair on the back of his neck stood on end.
"Hello?" He called out.
Just then, a figure stepped into the faint light that remained as red lightning pierced the sky.
It was another Billy.
"What the fuck..." Billy barely whispered.
"I want you to build...what you see" other Billy said as he smiled menacingly.
"I dont understand" Billy wailed. "I dont understand!!"
A flash of what happened at the mill coursed through Billy's mind causing him to shudder. He climbed back into the Camaro and wept, forgetting all about Diana and his plans.
