It wasn't until the day before graduation that the truth about Aniya's sudden move was finally revealed to everyone. The truth, as hard as it was for anyone to accept, was that Aniya's relocation had been a decision made for her safety. The situation had escalated to the point where it became necessary to take drastic measures. Due to Aniya being a minor, and given the complex circumstances surrounding her condition and the recent events, it was feared that any scrutiny from social services could lead to her being taken away from her family. The risk of her being placed in foster care or facing further interference was too high, so, as cruel as it seemed, it was ultimately the safest course of action to relocate her in secret. It had been a necessary precaution, but it still left a hole in everyone's lives, especially in Jacob's.
After Paul's graduation and the miraculous recovery of Jacob's sister Serena from the coma that had kept her unconscious for five months, Jacob found himself more withdrawn than ever. Despite the collective celebration and the group rallying together, Jacob could not bring himself to join them. The emptiness he felt from Aniya's absence was too much to bear. Instead of participating in the festivities, he spent his time alone, holed up in his garage, drowning in his own thoughts.
It had been five months since Aniya left, and Jacob had hardly socialized with the rest of the group. He was consumed by his own pain and guilt, unable to shake the image of her leaving and the unresolved tension between them. The memories of their last conversations played over and over in his mind, each time leaving him feeling like he had made an irrevocable mistake.
