Chapter 5: Boss

Chevelle POV

I sighed as soon as I woke up.

Naalala ko nanaman yung job interview sa Brighton Airport noong isang araw. It was so embarrassing! Umuwi ako katapos agad ng interview dahil alam ko na hindi naman ako matatanggap.

Matapos ng ilang sandali ng pagkatulala ng araw na iyon, nakasagot naman ako kahit papaano.

"I believe that Brighton's values are aligned with mine and I think that is the most important aspect when it comes to finding a job. To be able to do good in your job, you must also have a purpose and sense of meaning in what you're doing. Like Brighton, I want to achieve the total development of humanity by being kind, respectful and accepting of everyone."

I am actually amazed at myself on how I said that. Siguro, adrenaline rush. Nabasa ko lang naman iyon sa brochure nila kanina habang naghihintay at sa website nila na tinignan ko bago ako mag-apply.

Tumingin ako sa mga judges sa harap at nakangiti parin yung lalaki. Nakakasar! Parang nangbwi-bwisit yung mukha niya. Naka-pout siya at naka-raise yung dalawang brows niya, as if he's doubting me.

Di ko alam kung ano ang posisyon ng lalaki na iyon sa kompanya but he does look like a bit of a big boss. I've already offended him before so obviously they won't pick me!

I slammed my head in my pillows again dahil sa frustration. Nakakainis talaga!

I quickly got up though dahil may message ako na natanggap.

Brighton Airport:
Congratulations, Ms. Chevelle Marin! You are one of the lucky applicants in our company. You can start working on Monday next week. Be sure to be there at 8:00 am sharp because there will be a short orientation for new recruits. Thank you!

What the fuck?

I actually got accepted!?

Di ko alam kung sadyang baliw talaga ang lalaki na iyon pero whatever. At least I won't carry the burden of not having a job now. Malapit na maubos ang kakaonting ipon ko at nahihiya ako masyado kung hihingi ako kay Pam. I know she's got her own life and I don't want to take advantage of her kindness.

I scoffed as I begin to look forward to my new work.

Brighton Airport is a bit good, I must say. First time ko mag-work sa may cubicle pero komportable agad ako. Related kasi sa health ang admin job ko kaya naman hindi ako nahihirapan at maganda pa ang benefits nila sa workers. Libre ang mga lunch namin at brand new pa ang workspace.

Really... what else could I ask for? This is a stepping stone for me to a better life. Mag-iipon ako hanggang sa makaalis na talaga ako ng tuluyan.

"Oh, miss, ano iniisip mo diyan? Tulala ka nanaman." someone said.

I quickly turned my swivel chair around just to see the familiar man with a cocky smile.

"Oh yeah, I didn't tell you my name before. I'm Von, a shareholder in this company. Nice to see you, Miss Nurse." he said in a suggesting way.

Nakakainis! Anong gusto niyang mangyari!? Naiinis ako sa mukha niya! I didn't even bother remembering his name kahit kaninang pinakilala siya sa orientation dahil ayaw ko siyang ma-encounter. Pero ngayon, siya mismo ang nag-hanap sa akin.

"Anong gusto mo? Why are you even here?" I said in a cold voice.

He just let out a small chuckle. How weird, this guy...

"Diba pwede pumunta dito para makipag-friends lang? Sus... and I'm sure that's not the way you should be talking with your boss." he said with a smirk.

I rolled my eyes at him.

"Edi i-fire mo nalang ako. I'm working, please don't bother me." sabi ko sakanya.

"But it's no fun kapag umalis kana. I want to get to know you more. After all, I saved your life, didn't I? Come to think of it... di mo pa nga ako pinasasalamatan." he teased me yet again.

I felt that something pierced my heart out of the sudden as I remember the things that happened the day I met him...

"I would've been happy if you didn't interfere back then, Sir." I told him in a low voice.

He looked at me weirdly.

"Oh, really? Hmm... I wonder why. Well, see you around, Miss Nurse!" sabi niya bago siya umalis.
