Zale's POV:
As we walk calmly into castle town, inside I am fuming, Ugh! Stupid crawfish almost blew my cover! I hope he doesn't reconize me. If he does this plan will be a lost cause.
I guess my frustration and worries was showing on my face because Lana rests her hand on my arm and gave me a concern look like we'reactually friends.
"Are you alright Zale?" She asks with curiosity etch in voice.
I pull my arm away like she was a disease and ignore the hurt that show in her eyes. "I'm fine. Just thinking about something." I answer as I examine my surroundings.
Castle town is bustling with activity; there are stores on every side selling various items and food. People going in and out wasting money over things they probably don't need like jewelry or a toy for their spoil children.
And then, the sweetest aroma hits me in the face like a frying pan. I sniff the air, probably looking strange, but I need to know where the smell is coming from and what it is.
I follow the aroma coming from a small store. The door is wide open, letting the sweet smell trail out into streets to find people like me who are hungry.
"Mmm, that smells good! What is that?" I ask, as I race into the store.
"That is Mrs. Rosie's famous sweet cinnamon rolls," answers Lana as she follows me inside.
Inside there is a plump woman, wearing a brown blouse and white skirt, an apron tied around her waist. She's humming as she pulls out bread out of the oven with a long wooden tray.
She turns around and sees us. Shock, she stops humming, but smiles quickly, "Why hello your highness! Wait... Didn't you leave for Femos yesterday?"
Lana sighs, probably getting alittle tired for explaining the story over and over again.
"Yes I did, but we were in a shipwreck and I was saved by Zale here. We were both seperated from the crew and Femos was still a long ways to go so he carried us both back here."
Mrs. Rosie gasps as she held a hand to her agape mouth, "Oh dear! I am so glad you two are safe! And what about my husband? Galvin?"
"He's fine, miss," I answer, "I saw him on one of the boats with the other crew members."
She sighs in relief, "Oh thank goodness. Well what brings you too here to my humble bakery?" She turns and makes herself busy.
"Well Mrs. Rosie it seems your famous cinnamon rolls caught the attention of my dear friend, Zale," answers Lana with a kind smile.
I try not to gag when she called me her 'dear friend', however I hate to admit it, but a shiver when down my spine even though it was very warm in here because of the oven.
Mrs. Rosie smiles at me, "Oh, would you like to try some? I'm sure you would love them."
I slowly nod like a shy child. She nods as she sets the bread down and rushes to a table with a plate of swirly bun coated with white sticky stuff and brown sprinkles?
She takes a small plate and a fork and slides a cinnamon roll onto the plate, "Be careful, its alittle hot," she warns as she hands me the plate.
I cut a piece of the cinnamon roll with the fork and take a small bite, slowly chewing the warm sticky bread. It melts into my mouth and its the sweetest thing I ever tasted.
I swallow, "Wow," I say as I cut myself another piece. I have to hold myself back from completely devoring it. "This is delicous," I say as I fill my mouth with my new favorite food.
Mrs. Rosie smiles widely with joy in her eyes, "Ah it feels good when someone enjoys my food." She then frowns, "Oh dear... They should be back right about now..." She whispers to herself.
"What's wrong, Mrs. Rosie?" Lana asks with concern.
I notice Lana is always worried about other people and less about her own safety.
Mrs. Rosie sighs, "Well Hansel and Gretel haven't come home yet. They went out playing outside of town and they are usually back by now. I am getting worried, your Highness." Her eyebrows furrow as she fidget with her hand.
Lana frowns, "Well Zale and I can go look for them if you like."
I stop eating my cinnamon roll and look at Lana, "What?" I mouth to her.
She just gives me a glance in response. I sigh and turn to the baker, "Yes, we will go look for them. I'm sure they're fine."
Gratitude fills Mrs. Rosie's eyes, "Oh thank you! Please let me get you another cinnamon roll for my gratitude." She puts another cinnamon roll on my plate and I thank her before we left the bakery.
"Good luck! They can be a handful!" She shouts.
Once we continue on our walk, Lana says, "I am sorry for bringing you into that. You can head back to the castle if you want, I'm sure I can find the kids on my own."
"It's fine, Lana." I wipe my mouth on my sleeve, "Besides I don't mind getting to spend more time with you," I smile. This is will another perfect opportunity for her to trust me.
She blushes and turns away; I smirk as I take another bite of my cinnamon roll, "Mmm, this is so good!" I say as I savor this amazing delicacy.
"You really do love those cinnamon rolls don't you?" Lana tease.
I nod, "These are the best things I ever tasted! I should get more when we come back from our little quest."
"I do hope nothing happens to them." Lana says as we soon exit castle town and into the woods.
