My mother stared at me, completely ignoring Avi's presence. She briskly slipped past him and looked at me. Her face showing an emotion I hadn't seen her express in years. Care. She scooped me into her arms as a cry escaped her lips. Tears slipping from her eyes. "My baby." She whispers, her emotion shaking her voice. Shock complexity rolled over my body as I shakily wrapped my own arms around her. At the realization of my mother had come all the way to Japan to find me, it had enlightened my feelings. Tears began to cascade down my cheeks as we swayed back and forth. Avi looking at the woman with complete curiosity. My mom pulled away briskly, her arms still around me. She gave a serious looking face, as tears still down her face. "Come on. We need to get home." My brows crossed, "mom, I can't." I say. A slight smile crossing my face as I glanced back at the bearded fool behind me. It just crossed my mind that mom had never met John. He had kept me away from any civilization, fearing that I would tell someone about 'us.' But my mother knew that something was up. And she never even likes the thought of me dating. She turned to Avi, her face changing. "I know what this man has-" "Avi," I correct, looking around her to signal Avi to come to my side. "Saved me from John." Mom pulled away slightly. Turning to Avi, her gaze never leaving his. "Can I talk to you Charlie?" Suddenly I was pulled into the bathroom, mother closing the door behind us.
"Who is he?"
"His name is Avi Kaplan."
"He has a beard, Charlie! He's so, so-"
"Handsome?"
"To handsome!"
I chuckled at how my mother was acting. It almost weird, she never really showed much care after dad past. And I was left alone. My mother saw my change in form and she placed a hand on my shoulder.
"It took me a while to swallow my pride Charlie. A long time. A long time to realize that what you did saved my life. And I am a pore mother to not realize it sooner. I was a love struck idiot. A fool to think you were my enemy. And for that I am sorry. I know words aren't enough. But it's a start." She says. Her gaze lingering on. I simply grabbed her and pulled her into a hug with all my force. Never wanting to let my mother go again.
